The City of Fremont is excited to announce the launch of our new digital community engagement tool, MyFremont, which will serve as an online hub for community members to engage with one another, receive updates on community projects, plans, and events, as well as share feedback on future City initiatives via online community engagement tools to directly impact Fremont’s decision-making process.
Those who previously subscribed to the City’s former community engagement tool will not be automatically subscribed to MyFremont. We strongly encourage all Fremont residents who’d like to provide feedback on topics the City posts and receive updates to register and subscribe to MyFremont by visiting www.my.fremont.gov.
In partnership with the Better Block Foundation, the City will test an exciting, temporary transformation of Ellsworth Street in the historic Mission San Jose district tomorrow, Friday, September 9 and Saturday, September 10, 2022. This community-led vision will reimagine Ellsworth Street as a lively, safe, and welcoming neighborhood space and thriving commercial district for all, ultimately helping to spark creativity around the use of this public space. Over the course of six weeks, Better Block collected over 130 responses from the local community to spark inspiration for what would make this area a thriving commercial district that everyone can enjoy. The two-day community block party will have something for all ages including live entertainment, a makers market, food trucks, and a beer garden. See you there!
Join Captain Matt Snelson and Animal Services Manager Kelly Miott to hear about the proposed animal ordinance amendments. The community meeting will occur on Thursday, September 8, from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm via Zoom.

During the community meeting staff will discuss the following:
- Clarify animal limitations for chickens and permit goat and beehive ownership in areas zoned residential
- Definition and clarity of shelter and shelter maintenance requirements for chickens, goats, and bees
- Updating the anti-rabies vaccination age to 3 months for dogs to stay current with changes in state law since the last Animals Ordinance amendments in 2018
- Giving the animal services manager discretion to waive redemption costs of impounded animals in cases of financial hardship if the fees would impose an economic hardship for the owner
- Recommending that the disposition of an impounded animal be reduced from four business days to three calendar days
- Remedy an inconsistency between animal regulations regarding dog leash length in Title 6 Animals, and Chapter 12.20 regarding parks.
Questions and answers will be limited to these topics.
Currently, opportunities are also available on MyFremont for community members to register on our newly launched platform to share input on a proposed update to the existing animal ownership ordinance, which would allow Fremont residents the ability to have additional chickens, goats, and bees on residential properties.
Personnel from the Fremont Fire Department and Fremont Police Department will observe the 21st remembrance of the September 11th terrorist attack against the United States with a moment of silence on Sunday. Let us all remember and reflect upon a day that has forever changed us all.
On September 6, 2022, the Fremont City Council adopted the Street Racing and Sideshow Ordinance to prohibit promotion of and attendance at such events. Vehicle exhibitions and street racing have been a recurring concern for the health and safety of motorists, pedestrians, and residents in the city. These activities have caused fatal collisions, property damage, and traffic congestion, creating a public nuisance. Illegal speed contests, exhibitions of speed, and sideshows pose a clear danger to the residents of the city and the motoring public traveling on the roadways within the city. The ordinance will prohibit promotion of and attendance at these illegal racing events with the aim of significantly curbing this criminal activity.
Revised Council Districts Implemented for November 2022 Election
In April 2022, the City Council adopted new Council District boundaries for Fremont’s six districts. The new districts adopted were effective immediately, however, will become operative for the November 2022 election and ten years after. Until the November 2022 election, current Councilmembers will maintain their representation of district boundaries and constituents under the district-based map adopted in 2018. The newly adopted 2022 Council District Map hosts minor changes to Districts 2, 3, 4, and 6, while no changes were made to district boundary lines of Districts 1 and 5. Councilmembers will continue to serve under the same election cycle with Council Districts 2, 3, and 4 being up for election in November 2022, while Districts 1, 5, and 6 are up for election in 2024. View the following resources for more information.
Every three years, the State adopts new building, residential, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, energy, historical, fire, existing building, and green building codes (known as the California Building Standards Code). Earlier this year, the State released the 2022 California Building Standards Code, which will become effective on January 1, 2023. All construction and development projects submitted to the City on or after this date will be required to comply with the new code.
As part of the update, the City will be proposing local codes/ordinances for adoption that differ from the State code. On Tuesday, September 20, from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm, the City will host an informational meeting about these local code changes. Anyone interested in understanding what changes are forthcoming can attend this virtual meeting.
