Governor Newsom Attends Bloom Energy Manufacturing Plant Grand Opening in Fremont

Last month, cleantech company Bloom Energy celebrated the grand opening of its multi-gigawatt factory in Fremont, which will manufacture clean energy power generators and create an estimated 400 clean energy jobs by year’s end. California Governor Gavin Newsom, State Senators Nancy Skinner and Bob Wieckowski, Fremont Mayor Lily Mei, and Alameda County Supervisor David Haubert were among the elected officials in attendance.

“Thank you to Bloom Energy for building its advanced manufacturing facility right here in Fremont, creating hundreds of new jobs and career opportunities that can help support families in our high-cost region. Creating smart high-paying jobs is exactly what our state needs right now,” said Fremont Mayor Lily Mei.

Addressing California’s growing demand for reliable energy due to wildfires and power shortages, the new 164,000 square foot manufacturing plant will have an annual output of more than one gigawatt, the equivalent capacity of adding a nuclear power plant every year. This factory follows Bloom Energy’s newly opened research and technical center and a global hydrogen development facility in Fremont. In total, these facilities represent around 1,000 jobs in manufacturing and clean energy in Fremont.

Limited Services for the CleanStart Mobile Hygiene Unit 

The CleanStart Mobile Hygiene Unit will be providing limited services until August 29, 2022. Services will be provided Monday mornings at 7:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the Irvington Presbyterian Church and Thursday afternoons at 3:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. at the Centerville Presbyterian Church. Showers are available at the BACS Wellness Center on Grimmer Blvd.

Movies Under the Stars 

You are invited for an outdoor movie night this fall on Friday, September 30, 2022 featuring Encanto! This event take place at the Central Park Palms Pavilion Picnic Area located behind Aqua Adventure Waterpark. The movie will start in the evening after sunset. This event is FREE, so grab some blankets, low beach chairs, and a picnic dinner. Closed captioning available.

Upcoming Road Closures 

Festival of the Arts: Saturday, August 6 and Sunday, August 7, 2022

The Fremont Festival of the Arts is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, August 6 -7 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Several roads in the City's Downtown District will be closed and impacted by the event.

Road Closure: Please note the following road closures from Friday, August 5 from 2:00 p.m. to Sunday, August 7 at 11:59 p.m.

• Paseo Padre Pkwy – between Capitol Ave and Stevenson Blvd
• Liberty Street – between Beacon Ave and Sundale Ave
• Walnut Ave. – between Civic Center Dr & California St

Parking Lot Closure: The following parking lots will be closed from Friday, August 5 from 12:00 p.m. to Sunday, August 7 at 11:59 p.m.

• City Hall Parking Lot
• City of Fremont Family Resources Center (FRC) Parking Lot
• City of Fremont Development Services Center Parking Lot

Weekend Fiberoptic Construction Work on Saturday August 6, 2022

Construction work will be taking place this Saturday at the Fremont Blvd./Auto Mall Pkwy intersection between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. One lane is anticipated to be temporarily closed along Fremont Blvd. at a time. Minor construction related delays can be anticipated.

Upcoming Road Closures for Sanitary Sewer Pipeline Work on August 7 - 10, 2022

Temporary intersection closures at Fremont Blvd. & S. Grimmer, Fremont Blvd. & Innovation, and Fremont Blvd. & Industrial from Sunday, 8/7 through Wednesday, 8/10 between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. due to the Union Sanitary District construction work on their Sanitary Sewer Pipeline Rehabilitation Program.
