The Rise of Downtown Fremont Recognized By Main Street America
The exciting developments and energy pouring into Downtown Fremont have garnered recognition as an Affiliate Main Street America™ program. Each year, Main Street America and its partners announce the list of Affiliate programs to recognize their commitment to create meaningful improvements to their downtowns using preservation-based economic development and community revitalization through the Main Street Approach™.
In 2021, Downtown Fremont welcomed the creation of 250 new jobs, 7 new businesses, and $169 million in private and public investment. Recent additions include the opening of the Downtown Event Center, which is a perfect urban space for outdoor gatherings and concerts, the completion of Downtown's first mixed-use project completed and two more under construction, and a new 6-story office headquarters for Fremont Bank underway. The development activity is now creating opportunities for new small business additions such as Sliver Pizzeria, RawASF Plant-Based Cafe, and Banter Bookshop which is holding its grand opening next Tuesday on June 21 at 4:00 pm!
Downtown Fremont is a rare and unique opportunity to build a new downtown from the ground-up, not often heard of in a place like the San Francisco Bay Area. Located in a central, 110-acre area with a concentrated “retail spine” linking two major shopping centers and within walking distance of a regional BART station, Downtown Fremont is the culmination of years of planning and tens of millions of public investments. While there is much work to be done, we celebrate the momentum that is gathering in Downtown and we are excited to see its continued progress.

Alameda County Emergency Medical Services Agency has approved Washington Hospital Healthcare System to be designated as the County’s next level II adult trauma center. This decision follows an extensive yearlong evaluation of the County’s current trauma system and trauma needs; Washington Hospital has been preparing to become a trauma center for more than two decades. Results of the study commissioned by Alameda County Emergency Medical Services Agency found that Alameda County’s trauma system is currently functioning well and the County will need one additional level II trauma center in the next five years, based on projected population growth and trauma volume to minimize the number of patients sent to another county for trauma care. It was determined that with Washington Hospital Healthcare System’s trauma-ready facilities and decades of preparation to become a trauma center, it is well positioned to meet the needs of trauma victims in the South County Area within five years.
With summer fast approaching, the City of Fremont Parks & Recreation is looking to businesses and individuals to support our scholarship program to help provide youth in the community the needed emotional, social, and physical connection through summer camps, swim lessons, teen programs and more.
Each year a large portion of our scholarships are supported by Fremont’s local businesses. Without these donations many local children would not be able to enjoy summer camps. 100% of your donation will be used for Fremont’s low-income families who need support to enroll their children in programs such as swim lessons, summer camps, enrichment classes, and more.
Individual donations can be made at www.RegeRec.com. For larger donations and sponsorships, please send an email to Lance Scheetz – for the many benefits you may be eligible to receive.
FDA Authorizes Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccines for Children Down to 6 Months of Age
Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced it has authorized emergency use of Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines for children as young as 6 months of age. Read the press release. However, shots wont be administered until after the Center for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) vote and recommendation.
The best place for families to get their soon-to-be-eligible 6-month to 4-year-old children vaccinated is their pediatrician’s office.
- Alameda County’s vaccination strategy for 6 months to 4-year-old children is focused on increasing the number of pediatric practices able to vaccinate their patients.
- County-supported vaccination clinics operated by our community partners may vaccinate this age group. Families can visit the County’s website to find when those clinics will be available.
- Children 3 and older can also get their vaccination at pharmacies. Children under 3 cannot be vaccinated by a pharmacist and should seek vaccines from their pediatric provider.
- This is an excellent opportunity to obtain a child’s routine vaccinations and learn about other programs and services that can support a child’s healthy start.
- We strongly encourage everyone eligible to get vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19 noting vaccine and boosters help prevent severe illness that can result in hospitalization and death.
Businesses are expected to make reasonable efforts to ensure people follow the masking requirement in their setting.
- Examples of reasonable efforts may include providing masks or posting signage.
- Because the masking order requires individuals to resume indoor masking, businesses may set more stringent compliance standards for staff and customers at their discretion.
- Businesses and their employees are not expected to confront non-compliant customers.
- Businesses will not be in violation of the Order if customers refuse to comply with the mask mandate.
- In light of the upcoming heat advisory, individuals who unmask due to heat are not in violation of the Order.
