The Mission San Jose town center is a commercial district near Washington and Mission Boulevards, anchored by the historic Mission San Jose church and museum. The goal is to reimagine Ellsworth Street, nestled between Washington and Mission Boulevards, as a lively area blending commercial activity and neighborhood vibes in a two-day, community-led placemaking event in September 2022 that will help residents get creative with their public space.
While the two-day event will take place in September, the vision starts now with YOU. Your opinion matters and will directly shape the direction of the project! Please fill out the Community Survey and share with anyone else you think may be interested. This will help us get a better sense of what kind of businesses and activity you would like to see in the area. Your answers will help guide the design of the community event in September and the ongoing transformation of Mission San Jose into a thriving commercial district. Survey closes June 9, 2022.
Mission San Jose will celebrate its 225th anniversary on June 11 and 12 with great food, docent-led tours, live music and entertainment, arts and crafts, kids’ activities, beer and wine, and a raffle for a first place cash prize of $2,000! Bring your family to learn about its history and enjoy the festivities from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on both days.

Alameda County Reinstates Indoor Mask Requirements
The Alameda County Health Officer has announced that the County will reinstate the indoor mask requirements in most settings effective midnight on June 2, 2022. Hospitalizations of people with COVID-19 have more than doubled in the last month.
Face coverings must be worn over the mouth and nose—regardless of vaccination status—in all indoor public settings, venues, gatherings, and workplaces, including but not limited to offices, retail stores, restaurants and bars, theaters, family entertainment centers, conference and event centers, and State and local government offices serving the public. High quality, snug fitting masks such a KF94, KN95 and N95 respirators provide the best protection and are highly recommended.
The mandate allows for limited exemptions as follows:
- While working alone in a closed office or room
- While actively eating and/or drinking
- While swimming or showering in a fitness facility
- While obtaining a medical or cosmetic service involving the head or face for which temporary removal of the face covering is necessary to perform the service
COVID-19 case rates have increased steadily in Alameda County since the start of April and we are in our fifth major wave of infections.
- Case rates are now above the rates seen during last summer’s Delta wave. We expect to reach CDC’s “High” COVID-19 Community Level soon.
-
Hospitalizations are also rising after remaining stable during the early weeks of this wave. Daily new admissions of patients with COVID-19 rapidly increased in recent days and now exceed last summer’s peak.
- Vaccination and boosters continue providing strong protection against severe illness and hospitalization, as well as availability of COVID medications, and greater immunity from past infections.
Alameda County continues to prioritize testing resources to highly impacted neighborhoods and communities of color.
- Free testing is available, regardless of insurance or documentation status, at all our County-supported community testing sites, including stationary and mobile/pop-ups.
- Residents should visit the County’s website for more information about locations.
- Many of the community testing sites have added rapid testing access too.
- Residents can check in with the site through their registration portal to get the latest information. Appointments are encouraged and walk-ins are accepted.
Eighty-four percent of all Alameda County residents are fully vaccinated and more than 90% have received at least one dose.
- Nearly 64% of fully vaccinated people have received a booster.
- More than 76% of Hispanic/Latino residents have received at least one dose and more than 70% are fully vaccinated.
- Nearly half of all fully vaccinated Hispanic/Latinos have received a booster.
Alameda County-operated vaccine clinics now have boosters for 5-11 year-olds.
- Alameda County reports 1% of 5-11 age group is fully vaccinated, 67% has at least one dose. The vaccination rate of the 5-11 age group is well above the State’s rate of 35% thanks to the efforts of Alameda County staff and partnerships with schools and community organizations.
- The "Children and Youth Vaccine” webpage offers up-to-date information about children, teens, and vaccines.
- Walk up to a County-operated clinic, visit a pediatrician, or schedule an appointment at other clinics using CA.gov.
California streamlines access to COVID-19 testing and treatment.
- The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and OptumServe upgraded 146 testing sites across the state to provide both testing and treatment for individuals who test positive and qualify for COVID-19 treatment.
-
Test to Treat sites allow individuals to get tested, be seen by a provider, and receive a prescription for antiviral pills.
- Testing and treatment are free to all patients at OptumServe locations, including people who are uninsured.
-
Treatment is available to those who are positive for COVID-19, have mild or moderate symptoms, and are at high risk for hospitalization or death. The pill form of medication must be taken within 5 days of symptoms starting.
