 Collect Your Free Compost on April 10
If you participate in the green bin organics collection program, you are eligible to pick up two free bags of compost at the Fremont Recycling & Transfer Station, located at 41149 Boyce Rd., as part of our popular Compost Give-Away event on Sunday, April 10, from 8:00 am to noon, or while supplies last. Just bring your most recent Republic Services garbage bill as proof! This quality compost comes from our yard trimmings and food scraps and is carefully processed into a useful soil amendment for landscaping.  Celebrate Earth Day at the New Downtown Event Center & Plaza
We’re celebrating Earth Day 2022 at the Earth Day Fair on Saturday, April 23, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at Fremont’s new Downtown Event Center & Plaza, located at 3500 Capitol Ave.! The free event will be an afternoon of fun for the entire family, from interactive bike lessons and tune-ups to entertainment, games, and art activities. Visitors can also meet with eco-friendly environmental experts and learn about new ways to go green, recycle and reduce waste, eat healthy, reduce energy use at home, and more. In addition, the Environmental Services Division will also be hosting a condiment and utensil collection drive for local organizations’ meal services.
For everyone’s safety, COVID-19 protocols will be in place.

 Special Event Sponsorship Program for Fiscal Year 2022/2023
Reminder! The City of Fremont has a new Special Event Sponsorship Program (SESP) for community events to be held from July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023. To be considered for sponsorship, event organizers must meet all eligibility criteria and apply to the program. The deadline to submit your SESP application, along with your special event permit application and all relevant materials, is fast approaching on Monday, April 11, 2022, at 12:00 pm. The final allocation of sponsorship funds will be determined and announced following the City’s Fiscal Year 2022/23 budget adoption in June 2022.

 Bringing Back the Natives Garden Tour and Green Home Features Showcase
Registration for the free online Bringing Back the Natives Garden Tour and Green Home Features Showcase is now open. This year there will be four days of inspiration: two days online, and two days in-person. This tour will also showcase residences with green home features.
The online tour will take place Saturday and Sunday, April 16 and April 17 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.
The award-winning in-person Bringing Back the Natives Garden Tour and Green Home Features Showcase will allow registrants to visit beautiful, water-conserving native plant gardens— 36 Bayside gardens on Saturday, April 30, and 15 Inland gardens on Sunday, May 1, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. All of the homes have native plant gardens; about ten will be sharing their green home features, such as solar panels and batteries, induction ranges and heat pumps, and more.

The Fremont Freewheelers are holding their 50th Annual Primavera Bicycle Ride on Sunday, April 10. The ride will start and end at Mission San Jose High School – most riders will be starting between 7:00 am and 8:00 am for distances up to 100 miles. Riders should be returning between noon and 5:00 pm. While there are no road closures planned, community members may see bicyclists around Fremont throughout the day.
Event attendees are encouraged to carpool and should park in the Mission San Jose High School parking lot. Event staff will be on site to direct cars to park.
As we start the spring season, Alameda County is asking the community to remain vigilant in managing COVID risk. Vaccines and boosters remain the best protection against several disease. The State and Alameda County strongly recommend high-quality, well-fitted masks in indoor public spaces; staying home when sick, and testing if exposed regardless of vaccination status. Preventions are especially important as school-aged children take spring break. Students should test 1-3 days before returning to school and follow up with their school if further guidance is needed. The State of California distributed free COVID testing kits to school districts for students to prevent COVID from entering schools following break and possible travel. Prepare now for a safe return to school for your child after spring break. Share the test results with your local health department via the Primary.Health link sent by your school. If you did not receive a school link, report results via the Primary.Health website.
Alameda County is monitoring COVID-19 levels in local wastewater. As of March 31, the East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) COVID wastewater signal remains low and stable. Most publicly available wastewater data for California looks similar, although some neighboring jurisdictions have posted small increases in some sewer sheds.
