The City of Fremont will be hosting a community meeting for the Paseo Padre Parkway Street Design Project on Thursday, April 7, 2022, at 6:30 pm. The meeting will cover a review of the project history and existing traffic safety concerns and share feedback received from a recent community survey. Paseo Padre Parkway is an important route used by a variety of users, including residents who live along the street, residents who live in nearby neighborhoods, and people who travel through this section of roadway. This section of Paseo Padre Parkway is characterized by residential land uses along the street and is frequently crossed by students traveling to nearby middle and high schools; it is also an important thoroughfare connecting South Fremont, Central Fremont, and Interstate 680. To join the meeting, please visit the project website.
On March 15, work began at the future Dusterberry Neighborhood Park by the City's contractor Stockbridge General Contracting, Inc. Initial work includes site cleanup, clearing and grubbing, and rough grading of the site. Over the next month, the focus includes installation of underground utilities and import of additional soils. In the summer, work will shift to installing concrete, curb work and pavers, and the framework of the park will begin to take shape. Completion is anticipated in December 2022.
The City was recently awarded $4M of Proposition 68 funds through a competitive grant process administered by the State to assist with building the park. Dusterberry Neighborhood Park will be a 4-acre park located at the corner of Peralta Boulevard and Dusterberry Way. Amenities will include an open lawn area for informal play or leisure use, playgrounds for all ages, picnic area, adult exercise area, basketball court, central plaza area with perimeter trellis and shaded seating, and native planting throughout the park. The park was largely designed through a series of community meetings and survey participation, including a site assessment walk, in-person park design sessions, and public input meetings.
The design of Irvington BART Station, located in the Irvington District at the intersection of Washington Boulevard and Osgood Road, approximately halfway between the existing Fremont BART Station and the Warm Springs/South Fremont BART Station, continues to progress and is approaching 90% completion. The station architecture continues to be refined while the artist that was selected to develop the artwork for the Station, Rebeca Mendez, is developing a design that will utilize both interior and exterior surfaces.

Too often, unused prescription drugs find their way into the wrong hands, which is dangerous and often tragic. That's why it was great to see thousands of folks from across the country clean out their medicine cabinets and turn in—safely and anonymously—a record amount of prescription drugs.
Join Fremont Police and the Fremont Elks Lodge in coordination with DEA by keeping drugs safe, cleaning them out, and taking them back! Drop off any unused or expired prescription drugs on Saturday, April 30, 2022, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
We will also be providing an E-Cigarette & Vaping Devices Disposal. The DEA will collect vape pens or other e-cigarette devices from individual consumers ONLY after the batteries are removed from the devices. The DEA is not responsible for removing batteries from devices.

Runners, hikers and bicyclists are gearing up for the fourth Niles Canyon Stroll and Roll on Sunday, May 1. The scenic stretch of Niles Canyon Road between Mission Boulevard in Fremont and Main Street in Sunol will be closed to automobiles from 7:00 am to 2:00 pm, allowing outdoor enthusiasts exclusive access to the Canyon. During the first hour (from 7:00 am to 8:00 am), the road will be open to bicyclists only to give cyclists a chance to traverse the winding thoroughfare unimpeded by others. The event is being held for the fourth time in six years after being postponed in 2021 due to impacts of the COVID-19 global pandemic. The event raises awareness about a proposed new trail through the Canyon that would expand public access to its forested flanks, historic landmarks and sweeping vistas of rumbling Alameda Creek. Visit the event website for more information, including details about free parking, free shuttle service, and public transportation options,.
Alameda County is aligned with the California Department of Public Health and the Western States Scientific Safety Review Workgroup support for a second booster of the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna COVID-19 vaccine for everyone 50 and older and for people with certain types of immune suppression.
- The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the second booster earlier this week, followed by the California Health and Human Services Agency and the California Department of Public Health joint statement of support.
- According to the FDA, the known and potential benefits of an additional dose for these groups outweigh the known and possible risks. Additional booster doses are not yet authorized for other populations.
- An additional booster dose may provide additional protection to individuals at greatest risk of severe disease since vaccine effectiveness wanes over time and COVID-19 continues to circulate in our communities. The second booster may be given at least four months after the first booster.
- Alameda County strongly encourage anyone who is not yet vaccinated and those who are vaccinated but not yet up to date with their first booster to get vaccinated and boosted as soon as possible.
- Vaccines continue to be our best protection against the worst impacts of COVID-19 disease.
- Contact your health care provider or local chain pharmacy for your booster.
Alameda County no longer requires specific social distancing measures. The County continues to advise residents that smaller and outdoor gatherings are safer. If gathering indoors, wearing a high-quality mask and improving ventilation can add layers of safety. The CDC continues to recommend social distancing for those who are not up to date on their COVID-19 vaccine, especially if they are at high risk for severe illness. See How to Protect Yourself & Others | CDC for more information.
Alameda County will continue to align with the state’s COVID-19 guidance including indoor mega events, transitioning vaccine verification or proof of negative test in these settings to strong recommendations after April 1.
Travel COVID Safe. Travel increases the chances of getting and spreading COVID-19. It is essential to get vaccinated, boosted, and wear a well-fitting mask with good filtration in high-risk settings. To protect you and your family learn more about how to travel safe.
