I would like to start my message with wishing everyone a happy and safe holiday season. This is the time of the year we strengthen our love for family and take advantage of the precious moments we have with persons we care about.
As the close of 2021 nears, we reflect on all that we have accomplished TOGETHER as an agency, friends and colleagues. Despite the challenges, you persevered and served this great community with honor and dignity. In summary, you were able to navigate the complexities of evolving law enforcement expectations, make adjustments to a variety of operational field deployment strategies, clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of our SRO Program, adapt to administrative and policy changes, understand the need to adhere to COVID safety guidelines, enhance officer safety/wellness, offer support to those involved in critical incidents and work through a series of staffing transitions to include myself as Chief.

The Fremont PD Peer Support Team holds incredible value, credibility, and importance for all employees. The team provides emotional, social, and practical support to police personnel during times of personal or professional crisis. Our peer support team has been an integral part of sustaining employee wellness for decades.
On November 18, 2021, Fremont Police Department, in collaboration with the City of Fremont, held the Swearing-in Ceremony for Chief Sean Washington. Over two hundred invited guests and City staff attended the ceremony at the City's Downtown Event Center. The event was also live streamed on Zoom and on Facebook. A special thanks to the Personnel Team, the Community Engagement Team, and the City's IT and event center staff for putting this event together.
If you missed the ceremony, it is now available to view online: https://youtu.be/vD61acqkmSo
On November 19, 2021 SRO Marrkel Smith and SRO Jason Trzewieczynski visited Horner Junior High School with the Tesla Model Y and their SRO patrol vehicles. Both SROs work at the high schools where Horner students will feed into. During the entire lunch period, students and staff flooded the patrol vehicles, took selfies with the SROs, and even began asking for autographs from the SROs. The principal of Horner was very pleased with the outcome, and the event demonstrated strong support for the SROs (and FPD) from our Horner staff and students, which is a reflection of our overall community.
On December 8, 2021, Fremont Police held its 18th annual Shop with a Cop event. The event was suspended last year due to COVID, and this year we are grateful to have a modified drive-thru event for families in need. The event required massive planning and assistance from sworn personnel and professional staff.
We brought our program on back to the PD with a winter wonderland theme, with decorated patrol cars and blinking lights. With the help of our generous sponsors CFEA (City of Fremont Employee Association), Rotary Club of Mission San Jose, Chamber of Commerce, FPA (Fremont Police Association), community member Brandon Sass, Chic- Fil-A, and many more, we were able to bring holiday joy to 20 families selected by our City's Family Resource Center.
A huge kudos to everyone who participated - there are too many of you to list. We couldn't have done it without you! Thank you again!
The scout leader would like to say a big "Thank You" from the entire Pack 269 scouts to the Fremont PD A Side Zone 2 Swings Team and all the five patrol officers who visited them. All the scouts, leaders, and scout parents were excited beyond words and the officers engaged the entire group so well and addressed over 50 questions that super curious scouts had for them.
Again, thank you from the Pack for indulging the scouts and help them understand the important role that Fremont PD plays in our community.
