This day has been set aside to honor and support transgender and gender non-conforming individuals by calling attention to the ongoing epidemic of violence and transphobia, especially against transgender women of color. Fremont stands in support of human rights and individual freedom by honoring all transgender and gender non-conforming people who have been subject to violence based on bias.
Have you seen this sign around town? This week, from November 14-20, join the City of Fremont in embracing diversity by observing United Against Hate Week. Together, we can work to eliminate hate and intolerance from our community.

Reduce Food Waste This Holiday Season
As you start to prepare for cooler weather and the holiday season, the City of Fremont would like to remind you of that perfect place to toss your yard trimmings, falling leaves, food scraps, and expired leftovers … the green bin! This helps create compost, a valuable resource that farmers, landscapers, and gardeners can use to grow healthy food and reduce greenhouse gases. For a reminder of what’s acceptable for your green bin, view the City’s Composting Guide.
To learn more about composting at home, you can also check out the City’s Fremont Green Challenge. Visit the Compost action page to learn how composting your food scraps can help divert the estimated 5 million tons of food that Americans send to landfills between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day. When food waste is discarded with regular trash, it decomposes in the landfill producing methane, a greenhouse gas that is 30 times more potent than carbon dioxide.
To start composting right from your kitchen, collect your scraps and soiled paper items in bowl or container of your choice. You can also throw your food scraps in a compostable container such as a paper milk, juice, ice cream carton or other paper container such as a pizza box, and then drop the whole thing directly into your green bin. You can contact Republic Services at 510-657-3500 to get your very own organics kitchen pail at no charge if you need one. If you're hosting a holiday gathering, don't forget to have composting and recycling bins easily available for your guests.
By doing your part to reduce food waste, you can help keep Fremont healthy, vibrant, and resilient. Happy composting!
Tri-City Animal Shelter is proudly joining forces with Petco Love—formerly known as the Petco Foundation, a national non-profit working to lead and inspire change for animals—and animal welfare groups across the country, on a shared mission to help reunite lost pets with their families should they ever go missing. According to industry statistics, sadly, one in every three pets will go missing in their lifetime.
Petco Love Lost is a new, searchable national database that uses patented facial recognition technology to make finding lost pets quicker and easier. This simple-to-use tool will be easily accessible to participating animal organizations nationwide, as well as any pet parent or person who finds a lost pet. Uploaded photos of a missing dog or cat are immediately scanned to determine whether the lost pet is at a participating shelter or with a neighbor in the community.

In addition to training and leadership development opportunities, Explorers will support various community engagement, fire prevention, and operations initiatives. If you or someone you know may be interested in becoming a member of Fremont Fire Explorer Post #173, please send an email to Program Coordinator Preston Mattos. Alameda County announced a health order mandating vaccinations for workers employed in specified settings.
- Workers engaged in 9-1-1 ambulance transport, non-emergency medical transport, and first responders (including law enforcement and fire) must be fully vaccinated by December 21, 2021.
- This Order allows weekly testing for COVID-19 in lieu of showing evidence of vaccination.
- Workers must provide a signed declination letter to claim exemption under state or federal law due to a sincerely held religious belief or qualifying medical reason.
As the holiday season draws near, Alameda County urges residents to follow the State’s guidance to prevent the risk of spreading COVID-19.
- Get vaccinated, including a booster shot if you’re eligible to receive one. Vaccines remain the best way to help us end the pandemic and prevent illness, hospitalizations, and death.
- Stay home if you’re experiencing COVID-19 related symptoms (sore throat, cough, runny nose). It’s important to isolate yourself from others and get tested.
- Get tested before and after traveling or gathering during the holidays. Get tested 1-3 days before leaving and 3-5 days after returning from traveling.
- If some of your group members are unvaccinated, take precautions like keeping your gathering small, short, and outdoors and continue to wear a mask.
No-Cost Drive-Thru COVID-19 Testing
