Fremont Recognized for Improving Traffic Safety
At the Fremont City Council meeting on September 14, 2021, an awards ceremony was held to recognize Fremont’s achievements toward improving traffic safety. Representatives from the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) presented the Fremont Vision Zero Program with the “Project of the Year” award from the Western ITE District and the “Transportation Safety Achievement” award from the national ITE organization. Over the past five years, the City of Fremont has achieved a remarkable 45% reduction in fatalities and severe injuries caused by traffic crashes. ITE is the largest organization of transportation professionals representing over 16,000 members around the world.
Building an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) in Fremont just got easier. The City is pleased to announce the first ADU plan that has been granted preapproval through the City's new Preapproved ADU Program. The plan is for a 702 square foot, 2-bedroom, 1-bath ADU from Adore Homes, Inc. To use this preapproved ADU plan, homeowners must contract with Adore Homes since they own the preapproved plan set. Using a preapproved plan cuts the permit review time in half and significantly reduces design review and plan check fees. However, all preapproved plans still require additional site-specific plans, studies, and engineering, as applicable.
Over the last two decades, the State has adopted a number of laws that encourage ADUs and limit the requirements that may be imposed by cities on such units. To learn more about Fremont's program and using a preapproved ADU plan, visit the City’s Preapproved ADU Program webpage. As more preapproved plans become available, they will be posted on the webpage.

Masks are required for all persons engaged in youth indoor extracurricular activities, including most sports and performing arts, unless a mask is a choking hazard. If the sport or musical instrument cannot be performed with a face covering on (e.g., wrestling, gymnastics/cheer, wind instruments), one of the following is required:
- Move activity outdoors.
- Use modified face coverings/bell coverings, and maintain 6 feet.
- Perform at least weekly screening testing with either PCR testing (1:1 or pooled PCR), or antigen testing of all individuals, including those who are fully vaccinated. Schools must be in compliance with weekly testing no later than September 27, 2021.
The CDC’s newly released Morbidity and Mortality Report (MMWR) shows fully vaccinated people were well-protected against severe illness and death even after the Delta variant became the dominant variant. Fully vaccinated people had >10x lower risk of hospitalization or death from COVID-19 compared with people who were not fully vaccinated. Fully vaccinated people had 5x lower risk of infection compared with people who were not fully vaccinated. Locally, the case rate remains approximately 3 times higher among unvaccinated cases compared to vaccinated cases (29.8 per 100,000 among unvaccinated compared to 10.3 among vaccinated; as of 9/6/21)
