Caltrans has scheduled to close State Route 84 in both directions from Palomares Road in Fremont to Main Street in Sunol for an entire weekend of September 17-20, 2021 for work on the Alameda Creek Bridge. The closure will last 57 hours, starting at 8:00 pm on Friday night (9/17/21) and ending at 5:00 am on the following Monday morning (9/20/21). Access to pedestrians and bicyclists will also be restricted during this closure. Please note: This closure is not for the Stroll & Roll event this year, which has been cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns.
During this closure, the contractor will work around the clock to replace the existing bridge railings on Alameda Creek bridge. The work includes removal of existing barrier rail and concrete, removal of existing overhang, installation of new reinforcement bars followed by concrete pour for the new overhang.
Once concrete is cured, k-rail will be placed, and the road will be opened to traffic. Portable changeable message signs (PCMSs) will be placed prior to closure advising motorists of this closure and will stay in effect during full closure.
Caltrans thanks motorists and residents for their patience as they work to maintain and improve the Bay Area’s highways, bridges and tunnels.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted full approval to Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine (now known as Comirnaty) for people 16+, making it the first to move beyond emergency use status in the United States. After more than eight months of vaccine administration, there is now the real-world experience of hundreds of millions of people who have received this vaccine and this approval reflects the well-established safety review processes working. All three available vaccines are safe and effective at preventing the worst outcomes of COVID-19. The City hopes community members who have waited for full approval before getting vaccinated schedule their appointment or drop into a clinic today.
The CDC recommended an additional vaccine dose for people who received a two-dose series (Pfizer, Moderna) and have moderately to severely compromised immune systems. Data shows an additional dose may provide extra protection for our most vulnerable people. Residents who meet CDC criteria should consult their health care provider about whether an additional vaccine dose is needed.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services released a statement on booster shots. Alameda County-supported clinics will prioritize reaching those who are at high risk for severe illness or in high-risk congregate living settings like earlier vaccination efforts. The County will continue to operate community vaccination clinics and pop-ups to reach residents who still need their first or second doses and experience barriers to access.
