 37th Annual National Night Out
On August 3, the Fremont Police Department hosted the 37th Annual National Night Out. In partnership with City of Fremont staff and Fremont Fire personnel, more than 60 parties were visited. The goal of National Night Out is to strengthen community relationships. It’s first and foremost an opportunity for neighbors to get to know one another. This event gives community members an opportunity to have casual conversations with police, fire, and City staff in a small setting where they can feel comfortable and safe to ask questions or share concerns. It also allows new officers an opportunity to meet the community they serve and our veteran officers a chance to foster the relationships they have built.
We are proud to be among the 377 cities in California that participated in National Night Out this year in. This is one of the most fun and meaningful events the Fremont Police Department hosts annually!

On August 2, Congressman Khanna visited Fremont to tour City of Fremont projects that were supported by his office for a consideration of funding under the Congressional Community Funding Project and Member Designation processes. Under these competitive processes, each Congressional representative selects a limited number of projects in their community to be approved for funding by Congressional appropriations committee and legislation. The City is grateful for its continued partnership with Congressman Khanna’s office and is tracking the updates of these funding procedures closely. If awarded, this funding will be available under federal fiscal year 2022. Below are sites that were visited by Congressman Khanna:
- Fremont Housing Navigation Center Program Operating Costs
- Mission Blvd. and Pine St. Safety Improvement Project
- New Traffic Signal at Scott Creek Rd. and Zinfandel St. Project
The City of Fremont’s Public Works Department is working on the preliminary design and environmental study of a new regional trail that would connect from the Dumbarton Bridge to Quarry Lakes Regional Recreation Area, providing a new east-west bicycling and walking facility for Transbay commuting and for recreational use. The proposed trail would extend approximately 8 miles along the Dumbarton/Decoto corridor and consist of multi-use pathways, separated bike lanes, and wide sidewalks. The trail would connect to regional open spaces, transit hubs, and other regional trails including the Bay Trail and Alameda Creek Trail. The current project phase is funded by an Alameda CTC Measure BB grant and will be completed by 2022, after which the City will pursue additional grants to design and construct the various trail segments.
The project team has developed a short animation that provides more detail on the proposed alignment and the destinations that the trail will connect to, as well as a short survey in which community members can provide comments on the trail and sign up to receive project updates. To view the animation and take the survey, please visit the project website.

Summer veggies rely on nutrient-rich, healthy soil and good growing conditions to stay vigorous and produce high yields. Learn techniques that help prevent pests and disease instead of relying on harmful chemicals and grow an abundance of food for a season-long harvest. If your plants are in distress, understanding the reason why is key. Attend the upcoming webinar on vegetable gardening on Thursday, August 12 from 4:00 pm-5:00 pm to find out. This webinar is part of a series sponsored by the Alameda Countywide Clean Water Program, of which the City is a member agency, in association with Our Water Our World (OWOW).

Alameda County is experiencing an increase in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations and facing increased circulation of the highly transmissible Delta variant. Fully vaccinated people are well-protected from severe illness due to known COVID-19 variants, including Delta variants. Coupled with masking, vaccinating as many people as possible, as soon as possible, will protect individuals and our communities from the harm COVID-19 can cause. Vaccines are safe, effective, free, and widely available to everyone 12 and older. Visit the Alameda County face mask webpage and health order announcement for more information about the Health Officer’s Indoor Face Mask Mandate. Copies of the press release are available in 10 languages here.
Businesses can choose to implement vaccination verification systems to better protect their workers and patrons, but it shouldn’t replace requiring everyone to wear masks in indoor public settings, workplaces, and businesses. Employers must also continue to comply with other state requirements like Cal/OSHA’s Emergency Temporary Standards and the State’s Order requiring vaccination verification or masking/regular testing for certain high-risk settings.
Vaccinated residents are also encouraged to utilize California’s Digital Vaccination Record when they need to show proof of vaccination. With this proof, residents may be able to access indoor venues and businesses that may require proof of vaccination to enter. Residents who are having trouble accessing their digital vaccine record or ensuring it is up-to-date can also find support with troubleshooting on the California Department of Public Health’s website.
