 Fremont Green Challenge Engagement Campaign
The City is excited to share the progress of an ongoing engagement campaign for our Fremont Green Challenge led by the platform's provider Community Climate Solutions (CCS), in partnership with the City's Sustainability team. Since late 2020, the goal remains to increase participation and promote carbon emission reductions by households across Fremont. So far this year, CCS has fostered relationships with a wide range of Fremont community organizations such as local faith groups, a large Girl Scout service unit, educators from third grade through high school, youth leaders, and service clubs such as the Rotary, Lions, and Kiwanis clubs. CCS has helped these groups develop and implement custom challenges with goals, timelines, and activities informed by their organization’s structure, scope, and unique culture.

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed Public Law 87-726 designating May 15th as Peace Officers’ Memorial Day, and the week on which May 15 falls as #NationalPoliceWeek. National Police Week is a time to respect, remember, and honor the service and sacrifice of Law Enforcement officers. Honoring those who gave their lives in the line of duty for the protection and safety of others. For more information about the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund visit their website.
On Friday, May 14, the CDC announced that fully vaccinated people no longer need to wear masks in certain indoor settings except where required by federal, state, and local laws. The State will keep existing mask guidance in place until June 15, when California plans to fully reopen the economy. The four-week period will give Californians time to prepare for this change.
This news further underscores the efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccine in driving down cases and preventing community spread. However, COVID-19 continues to circulate at moderate levels in our communities and more than half of Alameda County residents, including children, are not fully vaccinated. The Alameda County Health Care Services Agency advises people to protect each other by wearing masks, especially in crowded environments, if they don’t know the vaccination status of those around them. Also, all workplaces must continue to follow Cal/OSHA’s standards, including current masking requirements since counties, including Alameda, cannot be less restrictive.
