Keep Fremont Housed Rental Assistance Program Application Now Open
The City of Fremont's Keep Fremont Housed Program provides rental assistance and/or utility assistance, using federal U.S. Department of Treasury stimulus funds, to eligible low-to-moderate income households unable to pay their rent and utilities due to a COVID 19-related job loss or loss of income. These funds are aimed at residents who are at risk of experiencing homelessness or housing instability. The Keep Fremont Housed rental assistance program application period is now open. Information on who is eligible and what documents are needed, as well as a link to the application, is available on the Keep Fremont Housed webpage.
 Fremont Housing Element Update
Fremont’s General Plan includes a Housing Element that identifies local housing needs and helps inform future housing decisions. Under State law, cities are required to update their Housing Element every eight years to show how they plan to meet the housing needs of current and future residents at all income levels. The City is beginning work on a Housing Element update, with a goal of completion in 2022. As a part of this update, known as the Regional Housing Need Allocation process (RHNA), the State identifies the estimated total housing need for the Bay Area from 2023-2031. The Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) then determines how to fairly distribute this need to local governments. ABAG recently approved draft allocations for the upcoming RHNA cycle, which includes 12,897 Fremont housing units. The updated Housing Element will convey how the City plans to accommodate its portion of the region’s housing need, while balancing community values and priorities. For more information on the update process and how to stay informed, please visit the City's Housing Element webpage.

Fremont residents can now download or upgrade to a new version of the Fremont App, a CRM application that enables users to report a wide range of local, non-emergency issues directly to City departments, via the Apple App Store and Android Google Play Store. The new version features a centralized “request” button to give residents the option to create a new request, view the status of previously submitted requests, and check for nearby requests reported by others.
Please join Chief Kimberly Petersen and members of the Fremont Police Department on Wednesday, April 14 at 6:30 pm for a virtual community meeting. Community members will be presented with details and information to include 2020 crime trends, initiatives, and an overview of operational adjustments and highlights during the COVID-19 pandemic. Staff will also discuss crime reduction strategies in response to rising property crimes and several recent shootings. This is the second year the Department has organized this annual meeting, and is a direct result of the positive feedback, attendance, and requests received by our community for more engagement opportunities. The meeting will be held virtually on Zoom. See our flier for complete details. We hope you will join us!
Additionally, this week, the Fremont Police Department released the Department’s 2020 Yearly Summary Report with Use of Force Data as well as a new update to the 8CAN’TWAIT – Where We Stand campaign.
Alameda County has moved to the Orange Tier, after meeting the requirements set by the State. Activities and businesses permitted in the Orange Tier per the State’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy may resume operation. Visit the City’s website for a list of businesses and activities permitted to open, with capacity restrictions and modifications. Alameda County must remain in the Orange Tier for at least three weeks before moving into the next, less restrictive color tier (Yellow Tier) even though metrics might warrant. As a reminder, the pandemic is not over. Please continue to take precautions to protect against COVID-19 by wearing masks, watching your distance, frequent hand washing, limiting mixing with people from different households, and getting vaccinated when it’s your turn.
