The project design team, Parsons, was active along the project corridor this past month conducting surveying and geotechnical investigations. As shared over the past few months, the survey work is underway to capture critical data on existing utilities, drainage, track slope elevations and other site conditions; while the geotechnical borings provide a better understanding of the soil conditions under the project corridor and at future light rail bridge locations. Together, this data gives the design team a clearer picture of existing conditions and provides the foundation needed to advance the design with confidence.
With these field investigations nearing completion, the project remains on schedule to reach the 60% design milestone in early January 2027. The 60% design package is a critical step in preparing the project for construction. By this stage, the major elements of the project, including track infrastructure, civil improvements, utilities, structures, stations, and related systems, will be defined and coordinated as part of a comprehensive design package. As the project advances through the 85% and 100% design phases, these elements will be further refined and detailed before the plans reach the "Approved for Construction" stage late next year.

As design work continues, the project contractor - SSH JV - is providing vital support. Working alongside the Construction Authority, SSH JV is identifying opportunities to reduce construction risk and costs, improve efficiency for the project as they develop an overall construction schedule, prepare programmatic plans, conduct field reviews and recommend early work packages that can help keep the project on track.
Looking ahead, SSH JV will have the opportunity to negotiate a construction contract to build the Pomona to Claremont A Line Extension with a guaranteed maximum price once the design reaches 85%; expected next Fall. Major construction is expected to begin in late-2027 and take approximately four years.
Thank you to everyone that stopped by the Foothill Gold Line booth this past Saturday, October 24, at Claremont’s 44th Annual Village Venture Arts & Crafts Festival. Our team had the opportunity to connect with hundreds of community members from throughout the project corridor and beyond, sharing the latest updates on the project, and answering many questions about the Pomona to Claremont A Line Extension. We also enjoyed sharing information on how to ride the Metro system and all of the great places to explore utilizing the County’s rail network.
It was a great day, as always, to be in Claremont and our team looks forward to participating at future events where we can update the community on the progress being made to extend the Metro A Line to Claremont.
The Construction Authority is hosting a Community Open House on Tuesday, December 1st to provide the latest information on the Pomona to Claremont A Line Extension; give the community an opportunity to meet the project team and Claremont Station artist, Joyce Kohl; and to answer questions. We hope you will join us at the Alexander Hughes Community Center between 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM. Arrive anytime, there is no formal presentation.
Thank you for your interest in the Foothill Gold Line.
