Pomona to Claremont A Line Extension Updates:

SSH JV and Parsons Begin Working Together to Advance Final Design and Pre-Construction Phase

As you know, the SSH Joint Venture team (SSH JV) - a team made up of Skanska USA Civil West California District Inc., Stacy and Witbeck, Inc. and Herzog Contracting Corp. - officially came on board as the construction manager for the 2.3-mile Pomona to Claremont A Line Extension last month.

This month, SSH JV and Parsons held their first joint meeting, as seen in the photo above. The goal of the meeting was to bring SSH JV up to speed on the current state of the project’s design and engineering by Parsons.

Construction Authority and SSH JV Complete Review of 30% Design Submittal; Parsons Moves On to 60% Design Goal

Following Parsons' submittal of the baseline 30% design package last month, the Construction Authority and SSH JV completed their review of the submittal and provided comments back to the design team. This review is an important early step in the design process, allowing the Construction Authority and SSH JV to weigh in on constructability, potential cost-saving efficiencies, compliance and more while the design progresses.

With this feedback in hand, Parsons is now working on advancing the design to 60%, anticipated to be submitted for review in January 2027. The project design will then advance to 85% and 100%, before ultimately reaching "Approved for Construction" drawings.

As part of the ongoing design effort, surveyors continue to collect data on existing utilities, drainage, track slope elevations and other existing conditions throughout the corridor. The information gathered will help refine the design as it advances.

Coming Soon: Geotechnical Investigations at Future Bridge Locations in Pomona and Claremont

In the near future, crews will begin geotechnical investigations at the sites of three future light rail bridges along the corridor: at the Garey Ave. and Towne Ave. crossings in Pomona, and at the Indian Hill Blvd. crossing in Claremont. Using specialized boring machines, similar to the one seen in the photo above, crews will drill below the surface to evaluate soil conditions at each location. The data collected will be used to inform the structural designs of the future light rail bridges that will carry Metro A Line trains over these crossings.

To safely carry out this work, temporary lane closures will likely be necessary. The Construction Authority will share more information about the schedule and any anticipated traffic impacts as the work draws closer. We thank the community in advance for its patience as this important work is carried out.

As a reminder, the freight and Metrolink trains will continue traveling at grade (at street level) through all grade crossings along the 2.3-mile project, while the future Metro A Line trains will travel across the new light rail bridges over the three streets mentioned above.

Thank you for your interest in the Foothill Gold Line.
