Updated Glendora to Montclair Extension Schedule Approved; Ground Breaking this October

Last week, the Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority Board of Directors approved an updated project schedule for the 12.3-mile, six-station Foothill Gold Line light rail extension from Glendora to Montclair. The updated schedule is based on detailed constructability reviews conducted as part of the advanced conceptual engineering phase and a more extensive understanding that the next segment is really two major construction projects in one – first the freight and Metrolink relocation/reconstruction, and then the light rail system construction.

The project will break ground in October 2017 and is anticipated to reach substantial completion in late-2025 to early-2026. The first year will be spent relocating utilities and conducting other pre-construction activities, and a design-build contractor is anticipated to be hired in late-2018.

Plans are still being developed for the ground breaking ceremony. As more is known, we will share the details.

Geotechnical Work Underway to Ready Next Segment

As part of the ongoing effort to ready the Glendora to Montclair segment for construction, crews have recently been conducting tests at key locations along the alignment to evaluate soil conditions. In the photos below, crews are shown collecting soil data by drilling 100-foot deep borings in Glendora at the intersection of Grand Avenue and Foothill Boulevard (top) and at Lone Hill Avenue (bottom). These sites are two of the two dozen locations along the future alignment where bridge structures will likely be built or renovated.

626 Golden Streets on March 5th

On the one year anniversary of the opening of the Gold Line from Pasadena to Azusa, Bike SGV and Los Angeles County Metro will be hosting 626 Golden Streets, an open streets event spanning seven cities in the San Gabriel Valley where more than 17 miles of roadways will be closed off from automobiles to allow for people to walk, bike, jog, skate and more. The route, taking place between South Pasadena and Azusa, will connect with the newest Gold Line stations in Arcadia, Monrovia, Duarte, Irwindale and Azusa.

Foothill Gold Line staff will be hosting a booth near the Azusa Downtown station. Stop by and say hi or to ask any questions you may have about the Glendora to Montclair extension.
