The Los Angeles County Traffic Improvement Plan is a sales tax
measure (Measure M) being placed on the November 2016 ballot by Los Angeles
County Metro. The measure proposes a new half-cent sales tax starting in July 2017, along with an extension of the 2008-voter approved Measure R half-cent sales tax beyond the
current expiration year of 2039.
Measure M has
a detailed expenditure plan which lays out how the new funds
would be spent over the first four decades. The
Foothill Gold Line to the county line in Claremont is one of about 40
major capital projects to be funded through Measure M, and would be one of the
first projects to break ground if approved in November.

Measure M can be found at theplan.metro.net. You can also click on the

The Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority has recently been
awarded four distinguished industry awards for the nearly $1 billion, 11.5-mile
Foothill Gold Line light rail extension from Pasadena to Azusa. The extension
was completed and turned over to Los Angeles County Metro in September 2015 and
began passenger service in March 2016.
The four awards were given
by various construction and engineering industry associations, which recognized
the Construction Authority and the Foothill Gold Line project in the areas of
engineering, construction, sustainability and project management:
-
Outstanding Rail Project of the Year – American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Metropolitan Los Angeles Branch
-
Sustainability Excellence Distinction Award – Western Council of Construction Consumers (WCCC)
-
Exceptional Project Achievement Award – Western Council of Construction Consumers (WCCC)
-
Excellence in Dispute Avoidance & Resolution Award – Dispute Resolution Board Foundation (DRBF)
The Foothill Gold Line from Pasadena to Azusa first broke ground
in June 2010 and was completed on time and under budget with 2.4 million work
hours logged and an excellent safety record. Construction Authority partners
for the project included Kiewit, Parsons, Skanska, AECOM, Hill International
and Webcor. The project was fully funded by Los Angeles County’s Measure R
half-cent sales tax that went into effect in 2008.
 Foothill Gold Line staff
will be out in the community in the coming weeks.
