After a full day of showroom meetings, toy executives in town for the LA Fall Preview (Toy Fair) at The Toy Association™ headquarters and hundreds of nearby toy companies headed to downtown El Segundo on Wednesday, Sept. 23, for an evening of playdate-themed specials at participating restaurants and bars.
Each location offered its own unique special designed to welcome visiting toy professionals and celebrate the toy industry’s deep roots in the city.
This was the inaugural evening event created specifically for Toy Fair attendees, and the City, Chamber, and Toy Association hope to make it a signature tradition.
“Events like the Main Street Play Date strengthen the heart of our downtown. They support our small businesses and showcase the welcoming spirit that defines El Segundo. We’re proud to host visiting and local toy executives throughout the year, and we look forward to celebrating this special event again next year,” shared City of El Segundo Deputy City Manager Barbara Voss.
El Segundo is home to the highest concentration of toy companies in the United States, including Mattel’s global headquarters. One year ago, The Toy Association opened The Toy Building at 101 Continental Boulevard—steps from several global toy manufacturers and top company showrooms—establishing a year‑round showroom hub in the heart of El Segundo’s toy district.
Participating locations included: Blue Butterfly Café, Boardroom Brewery, Brewport Tap House & Kitchen, Britts BBQ, Creamy Boys Ice Cream, Create & Express, El Segundo Brewing Company, EZPZ Pizza & Soft Serve, Gelato-go, Old Town Patio, Porterhouse, Richmond Bar & Grill, Rock & Brews, Sausal, Spread, Please!, Sugar Monkey Brewing & Social Club, Tavern on Main, The Slice & Pint and YLS Bakery.
