9PM Routine

9PM ROUTINE | IT'S TIME TO LOCK UP
The 9PM Routine is a simple crime prevention initiative that encourages residents to take a few moments each night at 9 p.m. to help protect their homes and vehicles from theft.

Burglars are often criminals of opportunity. The easier it is to access a home or vehicle without being detected, the more likely it is to become a target.

Taking a few proactive steps each evening can significantly reduce your risk of becoming a victim, including:

  • Remove valuables from your vehicle
  • Lock and secure your vehicle
  • Lock and secure your home and garage
  • Turn on your exterior lights

Making the 9PM Routine part of your nightly schedule only takes a few minutes, but it can make a lasting difference in protecting your home, your vehicle, and your peace of mind.

MOTOR VEHICLE THEFT
In January, motor vehicle thefts increased compared to December, with all vehicle body styles affected.

For many residents, a vehicle is more than just transportation. It is an essential part of daily life. That is why it is important to make your vehicle a less attractive target. The key is to make stealing your car seem like more trouble than it is worth.

Reminders:

  • Do not leave valuables inside your vehicle, including garage door openers or spare keys
  • Park in well-lit areas whenever possible
  • Choose parking locations where security cameras are present and operational

Taking a few simple precautions can significantly reduce your risk of becoming a victim. Stay alert and help protect your vehicle.

E-BIKE THEFT
While motor vehicle theft continues to be one of the most frequently reported property crimes, we are also seeing an increase in e-bike thefts. E- bikes are valuable and often targeted by thieves. Take proactive steps to help protect your e-bike and reduce your risk of becoming a victim:

  • Invest in a high-quality lock with an audible alarm
  • Double lock it. Using two locks slows thieves down and makes your bike less appealing to steal
  • Secure your bike to a fixed, immovable object
  • Lock or remove easily detachable components
  • Park in busy, well-lit areas with good visibility
  • Consider using a discreet tracking device to assist with real time location tracking in the event your e-bike is stolen
  • Secure your garage when storing your e-bike inside

Tips:

  • Create a bike passport that includes the brand, model, frame size, color, serial number, a photograph of the bike, and a copy of the purchase receipt.
  • Register your bike with our department.
  • Combine two or more precautionary measures. A single lock alone may not prevent theft.
