The City of El Segundo Encourages Residents & Visitors to Take Extra Care During Winter Rainstorm
Southern California is set to see heavy rain over the next few days, and the City of El Segundo encourages residents and visitors to take extra care securing holiday decorations, their homes, and while on the road.
- If an emergency arises, dial 911.
- The El Segundo Public Safety and Public Works Departments are fully staffed and prepared to assist with any incidents or hazards.
- Sandbags are available for El Segundo residents at the City Yard located at 150 Illinois Street. Please note: Limit 6 bags per vehicle, please bring proof of residency.
- Use caution around any downed or dangling wires or poles. If you see a downed wire, always assume it is live. Never approach or touch any wire that is down or dangling and immediately report it by calling 9-1-1.
- Please check your decorations and ensure they are secured and protected. Secure lose items in your yards and balconies. Water from rain can get into frayed cords/connections and cause electrical issues and/or fires; holiday decorations can become loose in the wind and get damaged; and large inflatable decorations can become projectiles in the wind/rain, causing harm.
- Drive cautiously and slow down. Many roadways will be wet and slippery. Avoid unnecessary trips.
- Do not attempt to cross flooded roads.
- Christmas Eve and Christmas may bring additional visitors to the area who are more focused on the festive holiday decorations than traffic. Stay alert to other drivers on the road.
- Make sure your vehicle is safe to operate during wet weather. Check that your tires, brakes, and windshield wipers are in proper working condition.
Stay informed and sign up for Alert South Bay.
Happy holidays to all!
