Fireworks Safety Reminder
As we head into the Fourth of July holiday, the El Segundo Fire Department would like to remind all residents that all fireworks, yes, even the "safe and sane" kind are strictly illegal within city limits.
Fireworks pose serious risks of injury, fires, and property damage, especially in our densely populated neighborhoods. We know fireworks can seem like harmless fun, but even small ones can lead to big emergencies.
If you have fireworks at home, we encourage you to dispose of them safely and responsibly. You can drop off any fireworks, no questions asked, at Fire Station 1, 314 Main Street, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. daily.

Hyperion Update
Below are the updates that were presented at the June 17 City Council meeting regarding the Hyperion Water Reclamation Plant, which is owned and operated by the City of Los Angeles.
City Efforts - City staff drafted a letter and plans on attending the upcoming SCAQMD abatement hearing scheduled for August 4, 2025.
AQMD - During the first two weeks of July, SCAQMD received approximately seven odor complaints. The facility was not issued a notice of violation during this period.
Hyperion - On June 17 between 7:00 -10:00 a.m. scheduled electrical maintenance took place at the facility. During this work the plant experienced brief power outages that impacted the plant's reactors, secondary clarifiers, and south fence line monitoring station. To ensure data collection continues during offline periods, portable Acrulog devices are temporarily placed at each monitoring station to track H2S levels.
