City Welcomes New Mayor, Councilmember and City Clerk
On Tuesday, December 17, 2024, El Segundo City Council unanimously certified the results of the general municipal election held on November 5, 2024, and swore in recently re-elected City Councilmembers Drew Boyles and Lance Giroux, new Councilmember Michelle Keldorf, and new City Clerk Susan Truax. Chris Pimentel was selected to serve as Mayor and Ryan Baldino was selected to serve as Mayor Pro Tem.
City Manager Darrell George presented plaques to outgoing elected officials Councilmember Carol Pirsztuk, City Clerk Tracy Weaver, and Treasurer Matthew Robinson in recognition of their years of dedicated service. Read the full story here.
El Segundo Fire & Police Heroes Welcomed Home
The City of El Segundo held a welcome home and recognition event for El Segundo's firefighters and police officers deployed to support the Palisades and Eaton fires.
El Segundo Fire Engines 31 and 32 and eight firefighters were on the frontlines of the Palisades Fire. They worked tirelessly on the fires for two weeks non-stop and were among the first fire crews on the scene. El Segundo police officers joined the National Guard and other South Bay agencies to assist with looter suppression efforts in the Eaton Fire area in Altadena. During the wildfires, El Segundo’s police and fire departments continued to remain fully staffed and ready to serve the community.
The City of El Segundo sincerely thanks all the El Segundo firefighters and police officers and their families for their heroic efforts.
To increase temporary housing options for wildfire victims the City of El Segundo relaxed fees and restrictions relating to temporary recreational vehicle parking permits, short-term rental permits, and hotel room taxes at extended stay hotels. Black History Month
At the February 4, 2025 City Council meeting, El Segundo City Councilmembers will proclaim February Black History Month, and urge all citizens to join together in making this a period of rededication to the principles of justice and equality for all people. The African American Heritage Page of the National Archives holds a wealth of free material documenting the Black experience. Click here to check it out.

American Heart Month
February is American Heart Month! According to the National Institutes of Health, heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. American Heart Month is a time to promote heart heath in the community. Experts say that eating a balanced diet, regular exercise, and good stress management are some ways to keep your heart healthy. Valentine's Day Tiny Tot Tea-Rex Party
Join us on Friday, February 14th from 10:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. for our Tiny Tot Tea-Rex Party!
There will be refreshments, snacks, crafts, games, and more! Fancy dress and costumes are encouraged. This event is for children ages 18 months to 4 years with an accompanying adult.
This event is pre-sale only. Wristbands are on sale now for $10 per person at the Clubhouse.

Aquatics Center Repairs
The pool at the El Segundo Wiseburn Aquatics Center will be closed from July 1 through August 31, 2025 for necessary maintenance and repairs, including the replacement of the pool heater. The anticipated reopening is September 1, 2025.
The City understands this closure may disrupt swim routines, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. These repairs are essential to improve pool operations and ensure a better experience moving forward.

Community Survey
Keep an eye out for the 2025 Annual Community Survey! This two-minute survey helps the City measure effectiveness and receive feedback that is incorporated into the City's Strategic Plan. This year's Community survey will be distributed in mid-February to residents and businesses via email and mail. If you do not receive this year's survey by the end of February, sign up here!

LAX Dunes Volunteer Opportunity
LAX's Natural Resources Management Group is hosting volunteer events from January - March 2025 at the LAX Dunes.
Volunteers will help transplant native plants in critical habitat for the endangered El Segundo Blue Butterfly. This is a great opportunity to visit the LAX Dunes which are normally closed to the public and access this rare and precious natural resource.

Construction Activity Around Town
Pavement Rehabilitation Project activities in the next few weeks include:
- Closing the alley between Sheldon Street, Penn Street, Franklin Avenue, and East El Segundo Boulevard for drainage improvements in the south portion of the alley, and pavement removal and replacement the length of the alley.
- Touch-up striping at the Main Street/Imperial Highway intersection.
- Pavement repairs on the the southmost lanes of West Grand Avenue west of Loma Vista Street, if budget allows.
Hyperion Update
Below are the most recent updates on the situation with the Hyperion Water Reclamation Plant, which is owned and operated by the City of Los Angeles:
City Efforts - On January 16, 2025, City Staff along with Doctor Stenstrom and sub-consultant had an informative virtual meeting with a specialized vendor that provides H2S odor removal technology for wastewater treatment facilities. The product information and costs will be relayed to Hyperion Staff.
AQMD - Over the past month, SCAQMD received approximately 64 odor complaints. Inspectors responded to all complaints; A notice of violation was issued for public nuisance on December 19th, 2024. AQMD Staff are investigating fence-line H2S spikes during the facility-wide power outage.
Hyperion - On January 7, 2025, Hyperion replaced damaged cables belonging to one of the two foul odor air fans at the truck loading facility. The repair work was scheduled for 1:30-10:30 p.m. On January 8, 2025, the Hyperion Plant experienced a facility wide power outage around 3:00 p.m. The facility utilized emergency power backup. Occasional flaring took place during this time. On January 11, 2025, at approximately 9 :00 a.m. the facility was rebooted and back online with optimal power source.

City Hall Closed Monday, February 17, 2025
El Segundo City Hall will be closed on Monday, February 17 in observance of Presidents Day.
City Hall's regular operating hours are:
- Monday - Thursday, 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
- Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Upcoming Shred, E-Waste, Mulch & Compost Event
Mark your calendars! EDCO and the City of El Segundo are sponsoring a FREE paper shredding, e-waste collection, mulch and compost event on Saturday, April 19, 2025 from 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the El Segundo Maintenance Facility, 150 Illinois Street. Details and additional information --> HERE!
