Saturday, September 14th 8:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
Join us on Saturday, September 14th at Fire Station 1 for the annual El Segundo Firefighters Pancake Breakfast.
From 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., El Segundo firefighters will serve a delicious free pancake & bacon breakfast to the community to honor New York City firefighters who gave the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001. Donations are accepted, with all proceeds going to help local charities in El Segundo. This event would not be possible without our local businesses' generous donations of food and supplies. Road Closure on Grand Ave. for Sinkhole Repairs
On August 28, 2024, Grand Avenue, between Indiana Street and Illinois Street was closed for repairs on a sinkhole west of the intersection of Grand Avenue and Indiana Street.
Weather permitting, the repair work will take approximately 2 weeks to complete. A detour has been set up to Holly Avenue around the full street closure. Please take alternate routes. For more details and a map of work, click here.

Tip-A-Cop Special Olympics Fundraiser at Topgolf Saturday, September 7th
Join the El Segundo Police Department for a Tip-A-Cop event at Topgolf on Saturday, September 7th from 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Members of the ESPD will be working side by side with food servers to collect tips, with 100% of tips going directly to Special Olympics Southern California. in support of local Special Olympics athletes. El Segundo Ready Day - Thursday, September 12th
In honor of National Preparedness Month, the El Segundo Fire Department is hosting "El Segundo Ready Day" on Thursday, September 12th from 10:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at Fire Station 1.
This crucial workshop is aimed at providing businesses with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively manage emergencies. This free workshop will feature presentations by world-renowned seismologist Dr. Lucy Jones and Director of Emergency Management for Los Angeles World Airports, Justin Pierce, followed by a Q&A session.

United Against Hate Week September 21st - 27th
In September, the El Segundo City Council proclaims support of United Against Hate Week, taking place nationwide on September 21-27, 2024.
The goal of the week is to draw local residents, students, school, civic, faith and business leaders together to raise awareness about how to stop hate and promote inclusion.
Here are three easy ways to show your support for United Against Hate Week:
#1 POST YOUR SUPPORT. Participate in the City's United Against Hate Week poster design contest! Submissions must be received by Thursday, September 12th. Click here for details.
#2 STAND FOR A BRIGHTER EL SEGUNDO. Join us for a candlelight vigil at Library Park on Thursday, September 26th from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Pick up posters, hear from your neighbors and light candles, all to show your commitment to stand united against hate. Candles provided or feel free to bring your own.

 The Main Street Fair,is a 30-year-old annual outdoor celebration covering eight city blocks with 160+ artist & craft booths, street vendors, kid games, a food court, the Beer Garden, and live music played by local performers at the Beer Garden stage and Main Stage from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 28th.
The El Segundo Kiwanis Club produces the Main Street Fair as a fundraiser benefiting children’s needs throughout El Segundo and the South Bay. Check out all the details on the Kiwanis website!

City Officially Breaks Ground on The Plunge Renovation Project
We are thrilled to announce that The Plunge Renovation Project has officially broken ground! On August 20th, City Council, local dignitaries, community members, and donors gathered with special guest speakers Richard Lundquist and Aquatics Coach Henry Stuart to celebrate this long-awaited moment.
The iconic Urho Saari Swim Stadium is getting a state-of-the-art upgrade, blending its cherished history with exciting new features that will bring our community together. The project’s anticipated completion date is December of 2025.

Hyperion Update
Below are the most recent updates on the situation with the Hyperion Water Reclamation Plant, which is owned and operated by the City of Los Angeles
- On August 23rd, City Manager Darrell George submitted a letter on behalf of the City of El Segundo to SCAQMD. The letter addresses City concerns and makes six specific requests that the AQMD board implement at their Abatement Order Modification Hearing date on September 5, 2024. - On August 20th, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California announced that the City of Los Angeles has agreed to spend a total of $20.8 million to fix issues at Hyperion. Resolving the U.S. Attorney’s criminal investigation. Click here to read the full press release.
- On August 6th, City Council and City staff, attended a tour at Hyperion where updates were provided by Hyperion staff and LASAN leadership, including Director and General Manager Barbara Romero and Public Works Director Ryan Jackson.
- The city of L.A.’s job posting for the Hyperion Executive Plant Manager position, which El Segundo provided input on, is closed and the recruitment firm is reviewing candidates.
- On July 31st, AQMD issued an NOV for violations of various permit conditions as a result of their annual inspection.

In observance of Labor Day, the below locations and services will be suspended on Monday, September 2nd:
City Hall Administrative Offices El Segundo Public Library
No street sweeping No trash pickup: one-day delay all week No parking enforcement
Normal operations will resume on Tuesday, September 3, 2024.

Drive up to the fill station and get recycled water for your gardens and landscapes instead of using precious drinking water during hotter, higher water-use months.
