Statement from El Segundo City Manager on Weekend Noise Disturbance

Darrell George

Dear Residents of El Segundo,

I want to personally address the disturbances caused by the excessive reverberating noise from the “Hard Summer Music Festival” held at Hollywood Park next to SoFi Stadium in Inglewood this past weekend. I understand the significant impact this had on your peace and comfort, and the inconvenience it caused.

Our City took immediate action upon receiving the first wave of noise complaints on Friday August 2nd. El Segundo Police Department (ESPD) officers immediately began investigating the source of the noise. On Saturday, August 3rd, ESPD determined that the noise was coming from the “Hard Summer Music Festival” in Inglewood. Despite the source of the noise coming from outside our city limits, we continued to pursue every possible avenue to address the issue. Mayor Drew Boyles contacted Inglewood Mayor Jim Butts, El Segundo Police Chief Saul Rodriguez called Inglewood Police Chief Mark Fronterotta, and we sent an official letter to the City of Inglewood imploring them to take immediate steps to mitigate the impacts of the noise pollution on El Segundo and neighboring communities. We issued community alerts to keep you informed and sent representatives to verify the noise source throughout the weekend.

Yesterday, I personally reached out to Inglewood City Manager Mark Weinberg, who has expressed sincere apologies and acknowledged the mistakes made in the event’s setup. It is believed that the elevated stage and speaker placement exasperated the bass reverberation. He assured me that such events will not be allowed in the future, and that they are committed to working closely with El Segundo and our neighboring cities to prevent such occurrences.

We are dedicated to ensuring the tranquility and well-being of our community. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigated this unexpected situation. Please know that your concerns are heard, and we will continue to advocate for measures that protect the quality of life in El Segundo.

Sincerely,

Darrell George
City Manager of El Segundo
