EL SEGUNDO, Calif. – (July 24, 2024) – This morning, the City of El Segundo proudly welcomed the Los Angeles Chargers to their new state-of-the-art training facility and headquarters, The Bolt, in front of a sold-out crowd of enthusiastic fans at the team's first day of training camp in El Segundo.

City of El Segundo Mayor Drew Boyles, Mayor Pro Tem Chris Pimentel, Councilmember Carol Pirsztuk, Councilmember Ryan Baldino, City Manager Darrell George, Police Chief Saul Rodriguez, and Fire Chief George Avery joined Chargers Owner and Chairman of the Board Dean Spanos, President of Business Operations A.G. Spanos, and President of Football Operations John Spanos on the field for a ceremonial ribbon cutting to officially open The Bolt facility.

This landmark event marks a significant milestone, as El Segundo becomes the only city in the U.S. that is home to the headquarters and practice facilities of major league professional basketball, hockey, and football teams: the Los Angeles Lakers, LA Kings, and now, the Los Angeles Chargers.

“Today is the culmination of almost three years of visionary collaborative efforts and we’re amped up to officially welcome the Los Angeles Chargers to El Segundo,” shares Mayor Drew Boyles. “This world-class facility represents more than a new home for the Chargers, it’s also a symbol of our City’s commitment to innovation, fostering strategic partnerships, and promoting economic development across industries. Further solidifying El Segundo as the most important five square miles economically in Southern California and the premier training ground for professional athletes.”

“We’re excited to officially open The Bolt and are especially grateful to the City of El Segundo for its tremendous support throughout this entire process,” said A.G. Spanos, Chargers President of Business Operations. “We can’t wait to further engrain ourselves in this great community and hope to make everyone here proud with what we do both on and off the field.”

The Bolt, built on 14-acres, is a 150,000 square foot state-of-the-art complex located just seven miles from SoFi Stadium, where the team plays its home games. The stunning facility boasts three natural grass practice fields surrounded by artificial turf, cutting-edge amenities, including comprehensive training and rehabilitation centers, a hydrotherapy room, lap pool, top-of-the-line media center, a two-story meeting room, and a dining room featuring the already iconic, Chargers helmet live-fire pizza oven. Guests are welcomed to The Bolt across the Chargers Walk of Fame, honoring each member of the Chargers Hall of Fame. The meticulously designed facility provides the team with a first-class environment for training, recovery, and development.

“We are thrilled to be the new home of such a renowned and respected organization as the Los Angeles Chargers; it diversifies the City’s economy and enhances our reputation as a hub for excellence. We look forward to welcoming Chargers fans from all over Southern California and beyond to El Segundo, and hope to celebrate many wins with them for years to come,” shares City Manager Darrell George.

About The Los Angeles Chargers
Now in their 65th season in Southern California, the Chargers continue to stretch the imagination and put on the most exciting show in football. But don’t let the idyllic West Coast setting and iconic powder blue uniforms – widely regarded as the NFL’s best – fool you. Behind the dramatic games, unforgettable highlights, beloved players and groundbreaking performances lies an uncompromising drive for success; one rooted in toughness, resilience and good old-fashioned hard work. Established in Los Angeles in 1960 as a charter member of the American Football League, the team played in San Diego from 1961 to 2016 and advanced to five of the first six AFL Championship games, capturing the 1963 title. Joining the National Football League when the two leagues merged in 1970, the Chargers have since claimed an additional 10 division titles and appeared in Super Bowl XXIX. Owned by the Spanos family since 1984, the Chargers returned to Los Angeles in 2017, opened their multi-billion-dollar SoFi Stadium home in 2020, moved into their new quarter-billion-dollar El Segundo training facility in the heart of Los Angeles’ South Bay in 2024 and continue to redefine what an NFL franchise looks like in the 21st century.
