National Night Out - Tuesday, August 6th
Join us on Tuesday, August 6th on the 300 block of Main Street from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. for the El Segundo Police Department's annual National Night Out event.
Gather with your neighbors, meet your El Segundo Police Department and see various demonstrations including SWAT, drone, fire and defensive tactics. There will also be music, vehicle displays, an inflatable jumper, food, and more!

Candidate Nomination Period Open thru August 9th
The El Segundo General Municipal Election will take place on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
If you're interested in running for office, make an appointment with the City Clerk to pick up your candidate handbook and submit your nomination documents by August 9th, 2024 at 4:00 p.m.

Family Campout - Reservations Due August 2nd
Reserve your spot for Family Campout at Stevenson Field in Recreation Park! Residents and guests are invited to bring tents and camp out under the stars from 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 10th until 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 11th.
The campout includes dinner, games and activities, s’mores over a campfire, and a movie screening at dusk. After a night of quiet rest, a continental breakfast is provided bright and early in the morning.
Due to preparation needs, this event is pre-sale only, and wristband sales end on August 2nd. Wristbands are available at the George E. Gordon Clubhouse. No alcohol or pets are allowed. Check out this info video!

Final Summer Concert - Sunday, August 4th

Mad Science: Up, Up and Away! - Wednesday, August 7th
Join us in the Sue Carter Room at the Library on Wednesday, August 7th from 3:30 p.m. - 4:15 p.m. for our Summer Reading Program finale “Up, Up and Away” with Mad Science!
Children will learn all about the science of air pressure in this engaging show. No registration required. Suitable for children ages 5-10 years old. Children age 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.

Go Fly a Kite Day - Sunday, August 18th
Soar into summer at our Annual Go Fly a Kite Day on Sunday, August 18th. The event is from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Recreation Park on the grass area next to the Checkout Building.
This is a free community event where we’ll color the sky with all your amazing kites. Don’t have a kite? Don’t worry! We have a limited supply of free kites to giveaway that will be yours to keep! Free kites will be given out on a first come, first serve basis. Event activities include kite decorating, face painting, crafts, and snacks. This event is open to all ages and is a great opportunity to spend quality time with friends and family.

Songwriters in the Round: The Art of Song Thursday, August 22nd
First presented in 2019, Songwriters in the Round: The Art of the Song returns on Thursday, August 22nd in the El Segundo Public Library, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. This is a kickoff event ahead of the El Segundo Art Walk on Saturday, August 24th.
Songwriters in the Round: The Art of the Song is free and will feature performances by singer/songwriter/musicians Rob Bonfiglio, Paula Fong, Sean Lane and Evie Sands, with a special guest appearance by Carianne Marshall, Chief Operating Officer at Warner Chappell Music.

 El Segundo Art Walk - Saturday, August 24th
Art enthusiasts and community members are invited to the free annual El Segundo Art Walk (ESAW) on Saturday, August 24th from 3:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Over fifty creative businesses throughout downtown El Segundo and Smoky Hollow will open their doors for studio tours, art, and live music. Each unique venue will act as a pop-up gallery displaying original works of locally based artists.
Visitors are encouraged to arrive early and visit the different exhibitions and pop-ups. Attendees can pick up maps, purchase art, sample beer and enjoy live music at the ESAW Headquarters in the parking lot of El Segundo Fire Station No. 1, located at 314 Main Street.

E-Ryde Mobility Showcase at ArtWalk
The E-Ryde store, El Segundo’s bike shop specializing in models with electrical assist and folding designs for urban commuters, will be hosting a Mini Mobility Showcase at the El Segundo Art Walk in partnership with the South Bay Cities Council of Governments.
Explore e-bikes, e-trikes, a brand-new, low-speed vehicle and more. From now until the event, snap a photo of yourself on a low-speed vehicle and/or take a selfie with a Local Travel Network turtle sign in El Segundo and post it on social media with #LocalTravelNetwork to receive a voucher for a free mini e-vehicle tune up when you check in at the event’s LTN table!

E-Bike Safety Course - Saturday, August 24th
The El Segundo Police Department has partnered with E-Bike Sense once again to offer a FREE E-Bike Safety Class on Saturday, August 24th from 10:00 a.m - 12:00 p.m. Their certified league cycling instructor will provide information on how to safely ride an e-bike, related laws, and recommended equipment. All you need to bring is your e-bike and a helmet!

Splash Off Summer - Wrap up your summer vacation with a last dip at the Wiseburn Aquatics Center with music and toys! August 19th -23rd from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. $5 for Rec ID members/$11 for non-members.
Summer Beach Shuttle - August is the last month of the summer Beach Shuttle. The shuttle runs Monday - Saturday from 11:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. through August 24th. Ridership is free with a valid Rec ID. Click here for Beach Shuttle pick up locations and more.
Summer of Fun at the Farmers Market - The fun continues at the Farmers Market through August 29th! Every Thursday there will be a special theme:

Hyperion Update
Below are the most recent updates on the situation with the Hyperion Water Reclamation Plant, which is owned and operated by the City of Los Angeles
- On July 31, 2024, AQMD held a hearing board meeting regarding Hyperion that was attended by City staff and Mayor Boyles, who provided testimony on behalf of the City. The next meeting is set for September 5, 2024 and it is expected that more conditions will be issued to Hyperion. Click here to watch the hearing.
- LASAN is still hiring for Hyperion’s Executive Plant Manager position that the City provided input on.

The El Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the El Segundo Police Officers Association and the Zimmerman Automobile Driving Museum will host the Main Street Car Show on August 17th from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. There will be classic cars, live entertainment, breweries, incredible restaurants, and more!
