CALL FOR ARTISTS

The City of El Segundo is seeking applications from qualified poets, writers and literary artists interested in becoming our next Poet Laureate!
The Poet Laureate will serve a two-year term and lead programs aimed at promoting and engaging the public in literary arts. The next Poet Laureate's responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- promoting the literary arts, particularly poetry, as an art form
- increasing the accessibility of the art form to residents in their everyday lives
- mentoring the City’s next generation of poets and writers
- speaking at school assemblies
- reading original writing aloud at city-wide public events
- leading writing workshops for youth and adult community stakeholders at local cultural venues
- exploring the City and getting to know the community
- composing at least one commemorative poem about El Segundo
- partnering with the Library and Historical Committee to tell the City’s stories
- writing prose celebrating the City’s geography, cultures, and histories
- collaborating with the Arts and Culture Advisory Committee (ACC) and City staff to create in-person opportunities to encourage interest and excitement about poetry, literacy, literary events, and related subjects, etc.
