EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (April 1, 2024) – The City of El Segundo is proud to announce the appointment of Saul Rodriguez as the new Chief of Police for the El Segundo Police Department, effective April 8, 2024. With over 30 years of distinguished service, Chief Rodriguez brings a wealth of law enforcement and leadership experience and a deep dedication to community safety.
“I am deeply honored and humbled to be appointed as the Chief of Police for the El Segundo Police Department,” said Chief Rodriguez. “I am committed to working collaboratively with our officers, community members, and city leaders to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, transparency, and accountability. As a resident of the South Bay, my family and I are looking forward to serving this wonderful community. Together, we will ensure public safety, build trust, and enhance the quality of life for everyone in El Segundo.”
Saul Rodriguez’s career in public safety started as a transit police officer for the L.A. County MTA in 1995. He joined the Santa Monica Police Department as a police officer in 1997, where he has served for over 25 years. Over the course of his impressive career, he has worked in operations, narcotics, patrol, criminal investigations, public information, recruitment, training, budget management, executive oversight and various special programs including traffic enforcement, and youth and homeless services. During that time, he was consistently promoted through the ranks to captain, and now, police chief for the City of El Segundo.
“Today, the city is gaining a leader known for his ability to implement effective policing policies, promote accountability, and prioritize community engagement. Chief Rodriguez has a comprehensive understanding of the unique challenges facing our city and is dedicated to implementing strategies that address these challenges while ensuring the safety and well-being of our community. We’re thrilled to have someone of Chief Rodriguez’s integrity and caliber in this critical role,” said City Manager Darrell George.
Chief Rodriguez holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice Management, and a Master of Public Administration with a focus in Public Sector Management and Organizational Leadership.
He succeeds Chief Jaime Bermudez, who served the City of El Segundo with distinction and dedication for 32 years, before retiring on April 1, 2024.
