Below are the most recent updates on the situation with the Hyperion Water Reclamation Plant, which is owned and operated by the City of Los Angeles.
- CITY EFFORTS REGARDING HYPERION

On March 18, 2024, the City participated in a joint legislative meeting with the City of Los Angeles (L.A.) regarding Hyperion. During the meeting, the City of L.A. admitted their shortcomings and laid out their plan for organizational changes at Hyperion that will focus on external affairs, government relations, employee engagement and regulatory compliance.

The proposed changes will be reflected in the budget that Mayor Karen Bass is scheduled to bring to City Council in April.

Meeting attendees included Mayor Bass's Director of Public Works Ryan Jackson, L.A. Sanitation senior leadership, and representatives from the offices of L.A. City council districts 5 and 11, L.A. County Supervisor Holly Mitchell, Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi, Congressman Ted Lieu, and Senator Ben Allen.
- AQMD
- The next AQMD Hearing Board meeting is tentatively scheduled to be held on July 31, 2024.
- HYPERION ACTIVITY
- Hyperion is performing cleaning and other recovery activities at the plant throughout March and April to address impacts caused by the atmospheric river storm event in early February 2024. Read the full Hyperion Plant Status Update - March 1, 2024.
- In addition, cleaning activities for Hyperion Primary Battery D tanks continue intermittently through June 6th, 2024.
