This is often attributed to the manufacturers unattended consequence that allows criminals to bypass the lock system in a matter of minutes using simple tools such as the USB charging cable that was left in the vehicle.

LICENSE PLATES When is the last time you really looked at your license plates? And not just checked to see if they were there, but you actually read the numbers and letters.
Criminals not only steal vehicle registration stickers to try and avoid paying registration and insurance fees, but they also steal license plates for several reasons. However, the number one reason a criminal will take a license plate from someone else's vehicle is to commit another crime. They will often times look for a vehicle similar to the one they have, remove the license plate, and attach it to their vehicle in hopes to deceive law enforcement from linking the license plate with a particular vehicle or crime.
Criminals will sometimes even switch your license plate with another license plate. This criminal act buys the thief time to commit another crime before the switched license plate is recognized either by law enforcement or the vehicle owner.
Tips to help protect yourself: 1. Know your license plate and check it routinely 2. Make sure both front and rear plates are affixed 3. Purchase special security screws that are difficult to remove with common screwdrivers
In the event your license plate has been stolen, please report it to the Police Department by calling our Dispatch Center at 310-524-2760.
