El Segundo Celebrated Champions & Looked to the Future at 2023 Annual State of the City Address

El Segundo Mayor Drew Boyles presents to more than 450 attendees at the annual City of El Segundo State of the City presented by the El Segundo Chamber of Commerce.

EL SEGUNDO, CALIF. – November 15, 2023 – Fortune 500 companies, political leaders, local businesses, and the El Segundo community gathered yesterday for El Segundo's annual State of the City address. El Segundo Mayor Drew Boyles and City Council highlighted the City's accomplishments and strategic goals under the theme of "Champions Start Here."

Mayor Boyles kicked off the event by recognizing the 2023 World Champion El Segundo Little League team, the City's strong fiscal health, exemplified by its recent AAA credit rating, and recognized the soon-to-be opened Los Angeles Chargers' headquarters and training facility. 

“El Segundo is Southern California’s most important economic five square miles. We are an economic powerhouse, home to Fortune 500 companies, more than 100 venture-backed firms, and headquarters to three of L.A.'s professional sports franchises. Our business-friendly environment, location, and exceptional City services power this incredible City,” shared Mayor Boyles.  

Mayor Pro Tem Chris Pimentel shared new developments and exciting news about the City's dynamic startup scene, including Varda Space, Pixxel, Radiant, Love.Life and noted that in just the last two years El Segundo start-ups have received more than a billon dollars in venture capital investments. 

City Council acknowledged the City's committees, commissions, and board members, the excellent leadership and accomplishments within the City's departments, and key infrastructure and capital improvement projects, such as "The Plunge," the Recreation Park renovation, and upcoming Downtown Specific Plan Update.

Councilmember Lance Giroux provided updates on enhanced public safety efforts and announced state-of-the-art technology that ESPD is deploying to deter crime, along with police and fire recruitment and community engagement initiatives. 

Councilmember Ryan Baldino highlighted the successful passage of Assembly Bill 1216 requiring Hyperion Wastewater Treatment Plant to conduct regular monitoring of emissions and publicly share real-time data. In addition, he highlighted plans to fill the abandoned reservoir at Hilltop Park with new green space which will create an additional one-acre park. 

Presented by the El Segundo Chamber of Commerce, the event was attended by more than 450 guests on Tuesday, November 14th, at The Terrace at Continental Park in El Segundo and was catered by Sausal El Segundo.
