Northbound Traffic Closed on Douglas Street Due to Sinkhole

A new, approximately four-foot square sinkhole developed today, September 21, 2023, at the Union Pacific (UP) Railroad crossing and Douglas Street. The sinkhole, caused by a failed storm sewer line, is on the northbound Douglas Street travel lanes.

The City immediately notified UP Railroad staff of the incident, and both the City and railroad are working together to repair the storm sewer line.

As a safety precaution, northbound traffic lanes along Douglas Street between Coral Circle and Utah Avenue are currently closed.

Staff are working diligently to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Northbound traffic lanes on Douglas Street will reopen as soon as the repairs are completed.

If you have questions, please call the City's main line at 310-524-2300.

As always, thank you for your cooperation.
