EL SEGUNDO, CALIF. (August 16, 2023) – The El Segundo Art Walk (ESAW), in collaboration with the City of El Segundo, and Snap Inc. announces an ambitious new interactive project called El Segundo AR. Launching at the El Segundo Art Walk on Saturday, August 26th, the initiative brings together local artists and technologists to highlight eleven pieces of public art in El Segundo.
These public art pieces will be featured in a newly created El Segundo Art Map utilizing Snap’s advanced augmented reality (AR) technology, including two new augmented reality murals. The El Segundo Art Map can be viewed online and on the Snapchat app by searching for @ElSegundoAR.
“The City of El Segundo has a wide range of public art to share with the community. This initiative will shine a light on each of these pieces to be discovered and experienced all in one place,” said John McCullough, El Segundo Art Walk Director. “The two new augmented reality murals are a fantastic way to breathe new life into the public art that residents have grown accustomed to. This technology is truly incredible.”
Today, the City of El Segundo and the El Segundo Art Walk are pleased to announce the eleven site-specific AR monuments or murals that will be discoverable on the El Segundo Art Map:

Reality Experience Design, an emerging leader in AR design, is creating and developing each of the AR Murals, the AR installation at City Hall, and the El Segundo Art Map. Christian Enriquez, founder of Reality Experience Design, is spearheading this effort as both the artist and lead design engineer bringing the AR assets to life. He and his team of reality designers have been contracted by the El Segundo Art Walk to produce four AR experiences.
“We live in such a wonderful age where art, technology, and the physical world can merge as one. With limitless possibilities for integrating AR into our everyday lives, if you can imagine it, you can create it,” said Christian Enriquez.
Snap is continuing its commitment to the community through a partnership with Da Vinci Schools in El Segundo. Together, they’ll run a Snap AR Lens Challenge, an opportunity for students to create and design their own augmented reality experiences using Snap’s Lens Studio software. The Snap program will use a mix of self-guided modules and live workshops by AR experts to transform students from curious explorers to AR developers.
“Through this partnership, we look forward to inspiring the Da Vinci students with the endless possibilities of augmented reality and encouraging them to become AR creators just like our Snap Lens Academy alum and El Segundo Art Walk AR creator, Christian Enriquez,” says Manager of Global Philanthropy Lindsey Heisser at Snap.
“We are proud to be sponsoring the El Segundo Art Walk and are excited to see the new partnership with Snap come to life,” shares City of El Segundo Mayor Drew Boyles. “El Segundo has long been a birthplace of innovation, including the creation of GPS, rockets, amazing toys, and so much more. This innovation starts with an idea, often sparked by some form of art. We look forward to seeing the augmented reality and potentially reenergizing public art in El Segundo.”
The City of El Segundo contributed $30,000 to this project through its Cultural Development Fund which is used to provide residential and business community members with public spaces, structures, and experiences that enhance the character of the city through the inclusion of art.
