National Night Out – Tuesday, August 1st
The El Segundo Police Department is hosting National Night Out on Tuesday, August 1st on the 300 block of Main Street from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Come out and meet your El Segundo Police Department and see various demonstrations including SWAT, drone, fire and defensive tactics. There will also be music, vehicle displays, an inflatable jumper, food, and more! For more information, click here.

Final Summer Concert Sunday, August 6th
The Summer Concerts in the Park series comes to a close on Sunday, August 6th from 4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. with Journey USA, a Journey tribute band. Full details can be found here.

Beach Shuttle's Last Ride Saturday, August 19th
August is the last month of the summer Beach Shuttle. The shuttle runs Monday - Saturday from 11:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. through August 19th. Ridership is free with a valid Rec ID.

Family Campout – Reservations Due August 2nd
Reserve your spot for Family Campout at Stevenson Field in Recreation Park! Residents and guests are invited to bring tents and camp out under the stars from 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 12th until 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 13th.
The campout includes dinner, games and activities, s’mores over a campfire, and a movie screening at dusk. After a night of quiet rest, a continental breakfast is provided bright and early in the morning.
Due to preparation needs, this event is pre-sale only, and wristband sales end on August 2nd. Wristbands are available at the George E. Gordon Clubhouse. No alcohol or pets are allowed. Check out this info video!

Bubblemania – Wednesday, August 2nd
The El Segundo Public Library will bubble over with brainiac bubble time as bubblologists perform and present the science and fun of bubbles! Children will learn about reflection, refraction, surface tension, and more. The grand finale will put participants inside of a giant bubble!

Go Fly a Kite Day – Sunday, August 6th
Join our annual Go Fly a Kite Day on Sunday, August 6th from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at Recreation Park on the grass next to the Checkout Building.
This is a free community event where we will color the sky with kites! Don't have a kite? Don't worry! Free kites will be offered on a first come, first serve basis as we have a limited supply. This event is open to all ages and is a great opportunity to spend the day with family and friends. Check out this great info video!
Show off your kite building and flying skills in our kite contest! All kite entries are due by 11:30 a.m. with flight demonstrations starting at 12:00 p.m. Each "pilot" is allowed one "co-pilot" during the flight demonstration. The first, second or third place winners will be announced and receive their prize at 12:30 p.m.

Library Diamond Jubilee Celebration Saturday, August 26th
The El Segundo Public Library has been inspiring the community for 75 years!
In celebration of the Library's Diamond Jubilee Anniversary, we will be hosting a free day-long celebration from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 26th. The day will feature live music and a picnic in Library Park with the Itty Bitty Big Band, an artist talk from Diana Nugit-Laufer, fun family activities and presentations, cookies and refreshments, a sneak peek at the limited-edition 75th anniversary library card design, and much more! El Segundo Art Walk – Saturday, August 26th
Art enthusiasts and community members are invited to the free annual El Segundo Art Walk (ESAW) on Saturday, August 26th from 3:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Over forty creative businesses throughout downtown El Segundo and Smoky Hollow will open their doors for studio tours, art, and live music. Each unique venue will act as a pop-up gallery displaying original works of locally based artists.
Visitors are encouraged to arrive early and visit the different exhibitions and pop-up galleries. Attendees can pick up maps, purchase art, sample beer and enjoy live music at the ESAW Headquarters in the parking lot of El Segundo Fire Station No. 1, located at 314 Main Street.

CERT Training – Saturday, September 16th
El Segundo Fire Department's free Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training program is back! CERT is a volunteer organization of trained individuals from the community who will help during a major emergency when first responders are overwhelmed. The next in-person training will be held on Saturday, September 16th at Fire Station 2. This is a hybrid course and the online class must be completed prior to the in-person training. Construction Activity Around Town
Two-Month Repaving Project West of PCH continues through August 31st. Overlay or slurry sealing will be taking place on various streets north of and including Mariposa Avenue, as well as west of and including Sheldon Street. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Please note, odors resulting from the slurry process are non-toxic and subside once the slurry has dried. Annual City Sidewalk, Curb, and Gutter Improvement Project continues through September 25th. Concrete removal, replacement, and repairs will be made on public property at various locations in the City. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Click here for more details and the project location map.

Hyperion Update
Below are the most recent updates on the situation with the Hyperion Water Reclamation Plant:
- Bill AB 1216 has been tentatively rescheduled to be heard at the Senate Appropriations Committee Hearing on Monday, August 21, 2023. Track the bill's most recent language and status here.
- On July 26th AQMD announced that it issued a Notice of Violation to Hyperion for elevated levels of Hydrogen Sulfide on June 19, 2023 and for violating requirements to reduce odors impacting the community. The exceeded levels occurred during scheduled scrubber maintenance at Hyperion. Click here to read the full South Coast AQMD press release.
- On Thursday, July 20th Hyperion held a Citizens Forum Meeting, attended by Councilmember Carol Pirsztuk and Director of Public Works Elias Sassoon. Those interested in receiving email notices directly from Hyperion about meetings like this can sign up here.

City Council Meetings Resume August 15th
City Council's summer recess will come to an end this month, resuming regular City Council meetings on Tuesday, August 15th. City Council meetings are held in the City Council Chamber starting at 6:00 p.m. on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month. For agenda and meeting minutes, click here.

Main Street Car Show Saturday, August 19th
The El Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the El Segundo Police Officers Association and the Zimmerman Automobile Driving Museum will host the Main Street Car Show on August 19th from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. There will be cars, live music, food and breweries.
