July 4th Celebration!
Join us on Tuesday, July 4th, for the annual Fourth of July event in Recreation Park! Daytime events include a hula hoop contest, water balloon toss, watermelon eating contest, pie-eating contest, 3-legged sack races, toddler and youth races, and a diaper derby. Evening events require a wristband for entry and will include live music, food booths, and the fireworks show at 9:00 p.m. Wristbands are available at the Clubhouse and Checkout Building in Recreation Park. Hyperion State of Emergency Update
At every City Council meeting, the City Manager and City Attorney provide an update on the situation with the Hyperion Water Reclamation Plant. Click here to watch the most recent Hyperion update.
Below are the most recent updates:
- On Wednesday, June 21st, the Senate Environmental Quality Committee passed bill AB 1216 in a five to two vote. Councilmember Ryan Baldino attended the hearing at the State Capitol in Sacramento and provided testimony supporting the bill on behalf of the City of El Segundo. The bill will now go to the Senate Appropriations Committee. Track the bill's most recent language and status here.

- AQMD is aware of the elevated levels of H2S reported by Hyperion's fence-line monitors on June 19, 2023 and they are investigating the matter.
- AQMD held a Hearing Board meeting on Monday, June 20th regarding Hyperion's compliance with the expanded order of abatement issued in January of 2023. The City will share the outcome of that meeting on the Hyperion Page of the website once AQMD issues its proposed findings and decision.

The Beach Shuttle is Back through August 19th
The Beach Shuttle is back! This summer shuttle runs Monday - Saturday from 11:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. through August 19th. Ridership is free with a valid Rec ID. The shuttle runs on a continuous loop with stops in residential El Segundo and takes riders to El Porto Beach.

Summer Concerts in the Park
Summer Concerts in the Park continue on select Sundays in July and August in Library Park! All concerts feature food trucks, so bring an appetite and get ready to get your groove on! Shows start at 4:30 p.m. and end at 6:30 p.m. Blankets can be placed in the park after 1:00 p.m., and kids’ crafts and giveaways will be available in the Gazebo starting at 4:00 p.m. before each concert. Chairs are allowed, but no glass containers or plastic tarps, please. All ages are welcome to come and enjoy afternoons of great entertainment!
- Sunday, July 9th – Who's Zepplin, a The Who and Led Zepplin tribute band
- Sunday, July 23rd – Upstream, a lively Caribbean/Reggae band
- August 6th – Journey USA, a Journey tribute band

Free Paper Shredding, E-Waste & Mulch Event Saturday, July 29th
EDCO and the City of El Segundo are sponsoring a FREE paper shredding, e-waste collection, and mulch event on Saturday, July 29th from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the El Segundo Maintenance Facility, 150 Illinois Street.
There will be certified shredding trucks and all items will be shredded ONSITE! Limited to two banker boxes (10”x12”x15”) per household. Unwanted electronics will also be collected including TVs, computer monitors, printers, fax machines, VCRs, etc. However, no household hazardous waste (HHW) material will be accepted.
Free mulch is also available for residents (while supplies last). This is a self-serve, self-loading service, so please bring your own cans/bags and shovel. Limit of 3 cans/bags per vehicle. If you plan to haul your mulch in an open truck or trailer, please remember to bring a tarp to cover your material. This event is for El Segundo residents only, please.

National Night Out –Tuesday, August 1st
Mark your calendars! The El Segundo Police Department is hosting National Night Out on Tuesday, August 1st on the 300 block of Main Street from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Come out and meet your El Segundo Police Department and see various demonstrations include SWAT, drone and defensive tactics. For more information, click here.

Bubblemania – Wednesday, August 2nd
Rainbow bubbles, square bubbles, giant bubbles and much more! The El Segundo Public Library will bubble over with brainiac bubble time as bubblologists perform and present the science behind this favorite blow-out past-time.
The grand finale will put participants inside a giant bubble!
Bubblemania happens on Wednesday, August 2nd at 3 p.m. in the Library’s Sue Carter Community Room. Details and flyer here!

Summer of Fun at the Farmers' Market
The Farmers’ Market is kicking it up a notch this summer! Every Thursday through August 24th there will be a special theme with exciting activities, arts and crafts, and more! Free activities include games, prizes, live entertainment, face painting, bouncers, craft projects, and giveaways.

City Launches Online Building Permit Hub
Residents and contractors can now apply for commercial and residential building permits online via the E-Z Permit Hub. The portal has expanded to include all residential and commercial building projects in the City. Permit applications, payments, reviews and inspections are now easily accessible through the website for staff and the public to use. Click here for the E-Z Permit Hub.

New Master Fee Schedule
El Segundo City Council approved a new Master Fee Schedule for the City at the April 18, 2023 council meeting. The updated fees are effective July 1, 2023. Most of the fees were increased by the Bureau of Labor Statistics Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim, CA Consumer Price Index annual percent change as of December, 2022, which was 7.45%. City Hall Closed Tuesday, July 4th
El Segundo City Hall will be closed on Tuesday, July 4th in observance of Independence Day.
City Hall's regular operating hours are:
- Monday - Thursday, 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
- Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

As a reminder, City Council is scheduled to take their summer recess during the month of July and the first week of August. The next city council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, August 15th.
