Egg Hunt & Underwater Eggstravaganzas Saturday, April 8th
On Saturday, April 8th, at Recreation Park, the Egg Hunt Eggstravaganza and Camp Expo will take place from 9:30 a.m.– 11:00 a.m. There will be multiple egg hunts with toy and candy filled eggs and a “meet and greet” with the Easter bunny at 9:30 a.m. The first Egg Hunt will begin at 10:00 a.m. for the toddlers –4 year old age groups. The second Egg Hunt for children 5-12 years old will begin at 10:30 a.m.
Other festivities include a Summer Camp Expo with our fun, energetic camp counselors, and instructors. El Segundo residents with a valid Rec ID will be able to register for Summer Camps starting at 9:00 a.m. on April 10th, non-resident registration will open on April 17th. Registration will be available online and in-person.
Afterwards you can head on over and hop into the Underwater Eggstravaganza at the El Segundo Wiseburn Unified School District Aquatics Center from 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. There will be an egg hunt, music, candy, prizes and more! Hyperion State of Emergency Update

Below are the most recent updates:
- City Manager Darrell George and City Staff have continued to meet with Assemblymember Muratsuchi’s office regarding bill AB-1216, titled “Wastewater Treatment Plants: Monitoring of Air Pollutants” which would require wastewater treatment plants, like Hyperion, in the state of California to monitor the air quality for H2S, NOX, and VOCs. If passed, the bill would be enacted January 1, 2025. Track the bill's most recent language and status here.
- Assemblymember Muratsuchi toured the Hyperion facility on Friday, March 24th.
- The City has secured wastewater treatment plant expert, Dr. Michael K. Stenstrom, who is working with the City to help address the ongoing odors and noxious gases coming from the Hyperion water reclamation plant. Dr. Stenstrom is an expert in aeration systems, large treatment plant design and operations, and spearheaded the ad-hoc committee, which made the 33 recommendations to improve Hyperion after the spill in July 2021. - On March 22nd, 2023, the City met with Barbara Romero, the Director and General Manager of L.A. Sanitation and her staff, who runs the Hyperion Plant.
- As of March 21st, AQMD reported that in the last two weeks they had received 30 odor complaints,10 of those complaints were made on March 9th. No new Notices of Violation had been issued since January 17th, 2023. AQMD is continuing to evaluate Hyperion’s compliance with the conditions under the Orders of Abatement.
- The Hyperion Ad Hoc Committee comprised of Councilmember Carol Pirsztuk, Councilmember Ryan Baldino, and Environmental Committee Chair Tracey Miller-Zarnecke continue to meet with City Manager and staff weekly.

Bulky Item Pick Up - April 10th _ 13th
Please put items curbside by 7:00 a.m. on your regularly scheduled residential service day: April 10th – 13th, 2023.
EDCO’s Bulky Item Cleanup gives single-family and duplex residents an opportunity to place unwanted items curbside that are too large or heavy to put inside collection carts, such as broken appliances, water heaters, furniture, old mattresses, and other miscellaneous household clutter.
All yard waste will be recycled and must be bundled. Tree trimmings should be cut into 3’ lengths and tied securely into bundles not greater than 18” in diameter. Debris from contractors, landscapers, or commercial businesses will NOT be accepted. No Hazardous Waste Accepted (HHW)! Click Here for HHW disposal information.

Summer Camp Registration Opens April 10th and April 17th
Registration for Summer Camps 2023 opens April 10th at 9:00 a.m. for residents and April 17th at 9:00 a.m. for non-residents. The El Segundo Recreation, Parks, and Library offers weekly summer camps from June 12th August 18th, no camps the week of July 4th. Or swing by the Camp Expo at the Egg Hunt on Apri 8th from 9:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. to meet instructors and learn about camp offerings.

Public Poetry Reading with Poet Laureate Wednesday April 19th
Celebrate National Poetry Month during our Public Poetry Reading at the historic Old Town Music Hall on Wednesday, April 19th at 7:00 p.m. Poets ages 18 and older are welcome to submit their original poems for consideration to Cultural Arts Coordinator Sam Lee by Thursday, April 6th at slee3@elsegundo.org. Poems should highlight the theme “Memory” and will be reviewed and selected by El Segundo’s Poet Laureate Hope Anita Smith. Poets will be notified by Friday, April 14th if they are selected to read.

Thankful For My Community Día Program Wednesday, April 26th
The El Segundo Public Library's Día program encourages participants to reflect on who and or what they are thankful for in their community. Our Thankful for My Community program, taking place on Wednesday, April 26th from 3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. in the Sue Carter Community Room will include a storytime featuring Oge Mora’s Thank You, Omu! and a craft activity. After stories and crafts, library staff will lead the participants into the park for sidewalk chalk art. This event is designed for ages 5-12 years of age, no registration is required. Road Closures on Vista Del Mar
Southern California Edison will be closing Vista Del Mar between Grand Avenue and 45th Street from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. on the following dates in April: • Wednesday, April 19, 2023 • Thursday, April 20, 2023 • Monday, April 24, 2023 There will be no power outage. Please avoid parking in these areas during the night of work and expect delays. For more details, click here.

El Segundo Boulevard Repaving Project
Begins Monday, April 17th
Please be advised that on Monday, April 17th, 2023, a City of El Segundo contractor, DASH Construction, will begin conducting road resurfacing and improvement work on the length of El Segundo Blvd. listed below. Weather permitting, the project will take approximately two months to complete. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- El Segundo Boulevard from Whiting Street to Illinois Street
There will be “No Parking” signs posted in the work zones indicating the specific dates work will be performed along the portions of El Segundo Blvd. mentioned above. During construction, access for through traffic may be delayed and we request the following:
- Please do not park your vehicles on the roadway.
- Please refrain from running excess water on the roadway.
- Trash pickup will not be disrupted, but please do not place trash bins or other debris in the roadway.
