EL SEGUNDO, CALIF. (December 14, 2022) – On Tuesday, December 13, 2022, El Segundo City Council held a special meeting to swear in two recently elected city council members; incumbent Christopher Pimentel and Ryan W. Baldino, who fills the seat vacated by Scot Nicol who chose not to run for re-election.
The ceremony began with certification of the results of the general municipal election held on November 8, 2022, which passed unanimously by City Council. Before leaving his seat Councilmember Scot Nicol thanked city staff, his fellow city council members, friends, mentors, and family for their encouragement and support. “Thank you for allowing me to fulfill something that I have felt has been a calling for a long time, I have truly loved it,” said Councilmember Nicol. “I can trust the people who have been elected and are here with me to continue to run this city and do a great job.”
Each of the City’s councilmembers expressed their gratitude for Nicol’s integrity, preparation, and depth of perspective as a lifelong El Segundo resident. City Manager Darrell George presented Nicol with a plaque and key to the city in recognition of his four and a half years of dedicated service.
City Clerk Tracy Weaver then presided over the swearing in of incumbent Christopher Pimentel and newcomer, Ryan W. Baldino. While this is Baldino’s first time serving as a city councilmember, he is no stranger to El Segundo, having lived there since 2001 and serving on El Segundo’s Planning Commission for the last 14 years.
“Thank you everyone for showing up tonight,” said Councilmember Baldino. “I was really overwhelmed by the support I saw in this city. I am very much aware of the seriousness of the position I’ve been placed in, and I promise to work my hardest to do what I think is best for this town that I love to call home.”
Mayor Pro Tem Christopher Pimentel took the opportunity to thank the other candidates for making the campaign about ideas and thanked his son for his support and input. Pimentel shared that “When you’re re-elected, it’s a second act of trust and I thank the community for taking another four-year leap with me.”
City Council then submitted their nominations for Mayor, and Mayor Drew Boyles was re-appointed with a four-vote majority. Quickly followed by a four-to-one vote re-appointing Christopher Pimentel as Mayor Pro Tem.
The newly appointed City Council will hold its first meeting next week on Tuesday, December 20, 2022.
