 Congratulations! The City of El Segundo was named “Most Business-Friendly City in LA County” by the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC) at the 27th annual Eddy Awards held at SoFi Stadium on November 9, 2022. The Eddy Awards recognize leadership in economic development in both business and government throughout Los Angeles County. This is the third win for El Segundo. Read the full press release here.
November 8th Uncertified Election Results
Below, are the unofficial results of the November 8, 2022 general municipal election. Results will be certified on December 5, 2022.
Measure W, a city cannabis measure has received a majority "No" vote, which means commercial cannabis is not permitted within the city of El Segundo.
Measure Y, imposing a cannabis business tax measure has received a majority "Yes" vote and would apply to legal cannabis deliveries from outside jurisdictions that are allowed by state law.
Measure BT, a business tax measure updating and increasing the City's business license tax, has received a majority "Yes" vote. The new business tax rates would go into effect in January of 2024.

- Incumbent Mayor Pro Tem Chris Pimentel
- Ryan Baldino
Councilmember Scot Nicol chose not to run for re-election. City Council will hold a special meeting to swear in the newly elected councilmembers on December 13, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. in the City Council Chamber at City Hall. All are welcome to attend.

Hyperion State of Emergency Update
At the recent November 15th City Council meeting, the City Manager and City Attorney provided the below update on the situation with the Hyperion Water Reclamation Plant:
- Hyperion set-up a 24-hour hotline number for odor complaints, the number is 310-318-8232.
- The City had a productive meeting with Senator Ben Allen’s staff regarding a potential new bill/legislation as it relates to Hyperion and Fence Line Air Monitoring Stations.
- Perimeter Road Improvement Project is 64% complete. Sheet pile installation using the smaller equipment has begun and is expected to be completed by the end of December 2022.
- The plant is performing maintenance activities through the middle of December. This includes reconditioning of the steam turbine generator. Expect to see a steam plume from the plant, Hyperion has informed us that it is only water vapor. On September 8th, 2022, City Council declared a state of emergency for the City of El Segundo in response to the ongoing release of noxious gases and odors from Hyperion Water Reclamation Plant.

Holiday Festival and Christmas Tree Lighting Saturday, December 3rd
The Arts and Culture Advisory Committee and Recreation, Parks and Library proudly present Joy Around the World: Holiday Festival and Christmas Tree Lighting on Saturday, December 3, 2022, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. For the first time, this free, family-friendly outdoor event combines El Segundo's Christmas tree lighting tradition with the celebration of winter holidays from around the world, including Christmas, Diwali, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Nochebuena, and Ōmisoka. Guests attending the event will enjoy live music and cultural dance performances, Christmas tree lighting, a holiday light show spectacular, visit from Santa Claus, children's trackless train ride, food vendors offering multicultural cuisines, craft-making stations, handmade crafts for purchase, and a special winter surprise!
The event takes place on the 300 block of Main Street and at City Hall Plaza (350 Main Street). Entrance is free to the public.

Santa's Mailbox through December 10th
Children can drop off their letters to Santa's Mailbox beginning Monday, November 28th through Saturday, December 10th! Please be sure to include a return address so that Santa can send you his reply. The mailbox is located in the Youth Library downstairs. This program is in partnership with the El Segundo Woman's Club.

Candy Cane Lane - Saturday, December 10th - 24th
Candy Cane Lane is back in El Segundo! Celebrated every year since 1949, except for 2020 due to the pandemic, Santa Claus will kick off this highly anticipated event on December 10th at 7:00 p.m. He will bring his magic down the 1200 block of East Acacia Avenue, lighting up decked-out houses and festive holiday displays as he goes! Santa will then head back up to the North Pole but the light show continues nightly from 7:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. until December 24th. Please note, there will be nightly street closures at Center Street and East Acacia Avenue and at East Walnut Avenue and California Street to allow for safety precautions.

Holiday Parade – Sunday, December 11th
The El Segundo Chamber of Commerce's 58th Annual Holiday Parade will take place on Main Street on Sunday, December 11th from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. This year's theme is "A Groovy Holiday" and will feature floats, marching bands, children groups, businesses, community organizations and maybe even a visit from Ol' Saint Nick himself to delight spectators from all over the South Bay! Santa's Sleigh starts Monday, December 12th
Santa is coming to town, and he wants to meet you! As always, the Police Officers Association is partnering with the Kiwanis Club to bring Santa to the streets of El Segundo. The dates for the sleigh will be December 12th through December 15th, and again on the following week, December 19th and December 20th. The Head Elf will be tracking Santa at approximately 5:30 - 8::00p.m. each day. Updates for Santa's Sleigh can be found on the El Segundo POA website, here.

Menorah Lighting – Thursday, December 22nd
The City's menorah lighting ceremony will take place on Thursday, December 22nd at 5:30 p.m. in City Hall Plaza. All are welcome to celebrate the festival of lights with potato latkes, jelly donuts, gifts for kids, and Hanukkah music and dancing.

Community Christmas Eve Dinner– December 24th
Enjoy a free and delicious holiday meal at the Recreation, Parks, and Library Department's annual community Christmas Eve dinner on December 24th, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Joslyn Center. This event is open to the public and is available by free delivery. Please RSVP before December 20th in-person or by calling the Joslyn Center at (310) 524-2705.

Inner City Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles Concert Saturday, January 7th
The City of El Segundo is proud to present a FREE performance by The Inner City Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles (ICYOLA) on Saturday, January 7, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the El Segundo Performing Arts Center (within El Segundo High School).
The concert marks ICYOLA’s premiere in the City, where a new audience will enjoy a variety of music from the country’s largest majority Black orchestra. For more details about the event and how to get tickets, click here.

Winter 2023 Recreation Activity Guide
The Winter Recreation Activity Guide for January through March 2023 is now available! Click here to view the complete guide and learn more about all the great recreation classes and activities the City of El Segundo Recreation, Parks, and Library Department has to offer.
Registration Opens for El Segundo:
- Residents: Monday, December 5th at 9:00 a.m.
- Non-residents: Monday. December 12th at 9:00 a.m.
To register for these classes and activities, visit esrec.org and click on the "Winter 2023" tab. Additionally, in-person registration is available at the Clubhouse, Joslyn Center, and Aquatics Center. El Segundo residents with a valid Rec ID receive a discount on all recreation activities, as well as facility and outdoor rentals. Rec IDs can be purchased or renewed at the Clubhouse, Joslyn Center, and Aquatics Center.

Richmond Street Reopening for Traffic January 2023
Outdoor dining was allowed on Richmond Street as an emergency provision during the pandemic to help support the restaurants in the area. At the May 3, 2022 meeting City Council extended the use of Richmond Street for outdoor dining through the end of 2022. Richmond Street will reopen for vehicular traffic in January 2023. Thank you to all who supported El Segundo’s Downtown restaurants during the pandemic.
The 2022 Spark of Love toy drive is celebrating its 30th year and it is the largest community toy drive in the nation. This special community campaign collects new, unwrapped toys and sports equipment for under-served children. Donations are being accepted now through Friday, December 16th at Fire Station #1 or you can donate online. More details and info available here.

In honor of ESPD Officer of the Year Fix-Hylton, who is currently deployed overseas serving our country with the U.S. Marine Corps, El Segundo PD is partnering with the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots program. Please consider donating brand new unwrapped toys at the ESPD Lobby through Thursday, December 15th. All donations are distributed to children whose parents cannot afford to buy gifts for Christmas, and we want to fill our boxes with toys to bring a smile to a child’s face this Christmas! December 2022 City Hall Closure Dates
El Segundo City Hall will be closed in December for:
- Christmas: - Friday, December 23rd & Monday, December 26th
- New Year - Friday, December 30th & Monday, January 2nd
City Hall's regular operating hours are Monday - Thursday, 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Special Swearing In Meeting, Tuesday, December 13th
City Council will hold a swearing in ceremony of the new city council members during a Special City Council Meeting on Tuesday, December 13th, 2022 at 6:00pm in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, 350 Main Street.
