Happy New Year El Segundo! There are many exciting things ahead for the City of El Segundo in 2022.
The City's downtown specific plan update is moving into the information gathering phase. The community will have the opportunity to provide feedback and input to help shape the future of Downtown El Segundo. Additional details and timing will be shared in the coming months.
The Los Angeles Chargers are planning their $100 million headquarters and training facility with a target completion of Spring 2024. And Topgolf is slated to open in April. Stay tuned for exciting updates about these gaming-changing facilities!
To ensure the safety and health of our City staff, we have extended City Hall closure to the general public until Tuesday, January 18th. Please see see the latest Community Update and the City's coronavirus webpage for the latest information.
As always, please adhere to LA County's health guidelines and continue to be vigilant and safe as the region moves through the Omicron variant.

Welcome New Police Chief Jaime Bermudez
The City of El Segundo is proud to announce the selection of Jaime Bermudez to serve as its new police chief. In this role, he will lead and direct all Police Department operations and continue the City's strong commitment to maintaining a safe community.
Chief Bermudez has been a member of the El Segundo Police Department since 1992, where he rose through the ranks from police cadet to captain, before being selected as the next police chief.
Chief Bermudez brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the position. He has a thorough understanding of the Police Department's operations, with a strong focus on serving the needs of the broader community.
“I am honored and excited to be selected as Police Chief of the El Segundo Police Department." Bermudez said. “I look forward to strengthening our Department’s commitment to service, professionalism, and community safety.” Read the full press release here.

Winter 2022 Recreation Activity Guide
The El Segundo Community Services Department's Winter 2022 Recreation Activity Guide is available and registration is open!
The Recreation Activity Guide can be viewed online by visiting elsegundorecparks.org. To register for recreation classes online, visit esrec.org and click the "Winter 2022" tab. In-person registration is also available at all recreation facilities.
Residents who wish to receive a resident discount on classes must have an updated Rec ID Card.

The City of El Segundo is in the final stages of updating the Housing Element of the City’s General Plan to ensure the City is prepared to meet future housing needs. Your input has helped develop a plan that best reflects the community’s needs, values, and priorities related to housing.
Under State law, every city and county is required to update its Housing Element to address specific requirements and submit the updated Housing Element to the State Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD).
On January 13, 2022, the Planning Commission will consider the final draft of the 2021-2029 Housing Element and make recommendations to City Council. City staff anticipates presenting the final draft Housing Element to City Council in February.

Doctor Dial-A-Ride with Lyft
Catch a Lyft with Doctor Dial-A-Ride! This program is designed to give residents ages 55+ more options for transportation to their doctor appointments! For assistance with Dial-a-Ride, contact the Joslyn Center at 310-524-2705 and an informational video about the new program can be watched here.

Topgolf is slated to be on-time for its April 2022 grand opening! The new Topgolf driving range and modifications to the existing golf course includes a state-of-the-art golf and recreation facility, three-level driving range with 102 hitting bays (an increase of 45 hitting bays), hitting bays equipped with market-leading “Toptracer” ball- tracking technology as seen on national golf broadcast, a 9-hole executive golf course with lighting for golfing at night, expanded short game practice area (putting and chip shots), landscaping upgrades, two new restaurants (one at Topgolf facility, and one at the new clubhouse), new pro shop, new clubhouse and patio, local resident discounts and early access privileges, guaranteed access for local youth and schools to encourage the development of junior golf programs, with preference to El Segundo Unified School District golf programs and team and community event and meeting space at the Topgolf facility.

Maintenance at LAX Throughout January
Los Angeles International Airport is conducting intermediate nighttime maintenance on Runway 25L/07R, throughout January. Because of this, El Segundo residents may notice a change in aircraft flight activity and associated noise. Please see the attached flyer for additional information and scheduled working dates. Any additional construction and noise updates will be shared on social media and the City's website.

West Basin Rain Barrel Program
West Basin’s free Rain Barrel Program returns! Rain barrels, valued at $80 each, provide a great way to save water and reduce stormwater runoff by collecting and reusing rain water. A rainwater capture feature, such as a rain barrel, is also a requirement for West Basin’s grass replacement rebate program, which starts at $3 per square foot of grass replaced. West Basin offers residents two ways to receive free rain barrels, including pick-up events on January 29 and February 5. Read all the details here.
