*As of November 23, 2020, the Los Angeles County Public Health updated the El Segundo confirmed case count to 178. Los Angeles County Department of Public Health began reporting cases of positive COVID-19 based on the zip code the patient listed in the medical records. This reporting started on March 22, 2020 and El Segundo has had 178 reported cases.
**The Centers for Disease Control recommends a 14-day quarantine once a patient tests positive and then recommends a follow-up test to validate that the patient doesn’t have active virus. It has been determined that a majority of cases resolve within the 14-day period, however some patients remain symptomatic beyond the 14-day period.
*** These are the calculated case rates and testing positivity numbers determined by the ES AHIMT from Los Angeles County Department of Public Health data, available at the time of calculation.
*****If the five-day average of cases is 4,000 or more or hospitalizations are more than 1,750 per day, outdoor and indoor dining at restaurants, breweries, wineries and bars will be prohibited and these businesses will only be able to offer pick-up and delivery services. If the five-day average of cases is 4,500 or more or hospitalizations are more than 2,000 per day, a Safer at Home Order will be mandated for three weeks. The Order would only allow essential and emergency workers and those securing essential services to leave their homes. In addition, a 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. curfew would be mandated, with essential workers exempt.
Public Health Reports 8 New Deaths and 6,124 New Confirmed Cases of COVID-19 in Los Angeles County
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health confirms the highest number of new COVID-19 cases with 6,124 new cases reported. Approximately 1,500 cases are backlog cases due to reporting systems being updated over the weekend.
The County is experiencing a steeper increase in daily cases of COVID-19 than seen during the summer surge in June and July. From June 20 through July 3, average daily cases increased 43%. From October 31 through November 13, the average daily cases have increased 108%. Public Health is not confident these numbers will decrease this week since new case numbers reflect actions people were taking a couple of weeks ago.
As cases have increased over the last few weeks, L.A. County is also seeing distressing increases in the daily number of people hospitalized for COVID-19. There are 1,473 people with COVID-19 currently hospitalized and 27% of these people are in the ICU. This is a 73% increase from November 7 when the daily number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 was 849.

New Restrictions Effective Wednesday, November 23 at 10:00 p.m.
On Sunday, November 22, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health announced that modifications to the Health Officer Order are coming this week to restrict in-person dining at restaurants, breweries, wineries and bars after the five-day average of new cases reached more than 4,000 cases. The modified Health Officer Order will take effect Wednesday, November 25 at 10:00 p.m.
The modifications prohibits in-person dining for a minimum of three weeks. Take-out, drive-thru and delivery services are allowed. Additionally, wineries, breweries can continue retail operations while adhering to current safety protocols.
Last week, Los Angeles County established thresholds for additional actions if the five-day average of cases hit 4,000 or more or hospitalizations reached more than 1,750 per day, to restrict in-person dining at restaurants, breweries, wineries and bars.
The escalated restrictions aim to reduce the potential for exposure in settings where people are not always wearing their face coverings.
