El Segundo Schools/City Facility Closures & Program Cancellations

Coronavirus Update 

Due to continuing developments with the spread of coronavirus, the City of El Segundo is announcing program cancellations and facility closures, as listed below until further notice. Information about school closures is also included below. As the situation continues to evolve, we will make adjustments as necessary. Visit ElSegundo.org for up-to-date information. There are currently no known cases in El Segundo. 

Closure of El Segundo Facilities

  • El Segundo Public Library - CLOSED (as of 5 p.m. 3/13)
  • Joslyn Center – CLOSED  The Outreach Office, Home-Delivered Meals and Dr. Dial-A-Ride (Thursdays) will remain operational for essential services. Lunchtime Shuttle, Dial-A-Ride, Beach Striders, fitness and recreation classes, meetings, reservations, social gatherings of any kind are suspended.
  • George E. Gordon Clubhouse – PROGRAMS CANCELLED, FRONT DESK & RESTROOMS OPEN
  • Checkout Building & Recreation Park – OUTDOOR AREAS and the CHECKOUT WINDOW OPEN, PROGRAMS CANCELLED
    Recreation Park, including playgrounds, restrooms, tennis and sports courts remain open. The Checkout Window will be open and staffed. Please bring your own sports equipment, as no City equipment will be available for checkout in order to minimize shared use.
  • Campus El Segundo – CLOSED No activity will be permitted.
  • El Segundo Wiseburn Aquatics Center & Urho Saari Swim Stadium – CLOSED All Aquatics programming is suspended. Front Desk staff will remain at the Aquatics Center for answering questions.
  • Teen Center & Skate Park – CLOSED No activity will be permitted.

Classes, Events and Activities Cancellations

  • Sports Leagues – CITY-SPONSORED ADULT & YOUTH LEAGUES CANCELLED, SOME OUTSIDE ORGANIZATIONS SUSPENDED
    Adult Co-Ed Soccer and Basketball Leagues are suspended. Youth Basketball All-Stars are cancelled. El Segundo Little League, AYSO Region 92 and El Segundo Girls Softball have announced suspension of practices and games. Check in directly with sports leagues for more information.
  • Youth Drama classes and performances, recreation classes, and reservations are suspended. El Segundo Co-Op Nursery School is suspended in correlation with ESUSD cancellations.
  • All El Segundo Library programs and meeting room booked events 
  • Mayor's Good Friday Breakfast 
  • All City of El Segundo committee, commissions and boards meetings. The March 17 City Council Meeting is moving forward. 
  • City of El Segundo Police Department community outreach events

El Segundo School Closures

  • El Segundo Unified School District Closure - El Segundo Unified School District  will close campuses to students beginning Monday, March 16. El Segundo Unified Schools District's assemblies and field trips (cancelled through April 13) 
  • DaVinci High School  - Beginning Monday, March 16, 2020, all Da Vinci schools will be closed to students for at least one week. Curriculum will be delivered via a virtual delivery model and other means of home study. Additional guidance about returning to campus will be provided on or before March 20, 2020.
  • Wiseburn  will close campuses to students and switch to virtual learning starting Monday, March 16. Students are currently scheduled to return after Spring Break (April 6-10).  
  • Vistamar  - CLOSED

Important Reminder Information 

State of California public health officials have issued new guidance, including the following new recommendations:

  • Individuals should avoid non-essential gatherings.
  • Any gathering should be limited to no more than 50 people.
  • If you are holding a smaller event (less than 50 people), implement social distancing, which means keeping six feet of space or more between people.
  • For those who are at higher risk of serious illness (older adults, those with underlying medical conditions, and pregnant women), gatherings should be limited to no more than 10 people who are also following social distancing guidelines (keeping six feet or more of space between individuals). This includes gatherings at retirement facilitates, assisted living facilities, and support groups. 
  • Gatherings are defined as any event or convening that brings together people in a single room or single space at the same time, such as an auditorium, stadium arena, large conference room, meeting hall, cafeteria or any other indoor or outdoor space.

Previous recommendations from public health officials remain:

  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • People with underlying health conditions, pregnant women and the elderly should practice social distancing by avoid non-essential travel, public events, community gatherings, and indoor venues. 
  • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe. 
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash. If you do not have a tissue, use your sleeve (not your hands). 
  • Facemasks are most effective when used appropriately by health care workers and those directly caring for people who are sick and by people who are sick. 
  • Get a flu immunization if you have not done so this season.
