RUBICON TRAIL users, please see this statement from Supervisor Lori Parlin and the letter from the U.S. Forest Service - Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit that clarifies information about the beloved Trail. Well done to all involved for protecting this worldwide gem for future generations! "After years of meetings and discussions with interest groups and the US Forest Service regarding the impact of the rerouting of part of the Rubicon Trail, last week Placer County Supervisor Cindy Gustafson and I were able to secure a letter from the US Forest Service affirming its commitment to keep the Trail open to users without seasonal closures and clarifying information about perceived motives by the Forest Service surrounding its long-term management of the Trail. This letter clearly clarifies the commitment of the Forest Service and both specifically addresses Board of Supervisors' direction last Spring and is in the spirit of the 2019 Memorandum of Understanding between all parties to keep the Trail accessible. I especially want to thank Supervisor Cindy Gustafson and her staff for collaborating with me and our Rubicon partners to make this happen. This is a big win for Rubicon users and the environment, ensuring the Rubicon Trail will continue to be accessible for generations to come." -- Lori Parlin, District IV Supervisor.
