To prepare for the Board’s annual budget direction to the Chief Administrative Office (CAO) in April, at the February 11, 2025, BOS meeting the CAO will be asking the Board for direction on allocating existing and generating new Discretionary Transient Occupancy Tax (DTOT), which is also known as the Hotel Tax.

Given the large projected decrease in DTOT in the 2025/2026 fiscal year, the BOS will consider past DTOT allocations and direct staff to either continue, modify, or discontinue those allocations. The PowerPoint presentation for this discussion lists past allocations and is available to download here: eldorado.legistar.com/View.ashx?M=F&ID=13741256&GUID=0F1FE3CF-846C-405F-95D8-F20E6199C9E6

In reviewing the slowing discretionary revenues with the Budget Ad Hoc Committee, it was determined that the Budget Ad Hoc Committee would like to explore increasing revenue through ballot measures. This could be through Sales and Use Tax, Transient Occupancy Tax, Tourism Districts, Assessment Districts and/or increasing fees. Staff are seeking direction from the Board to work with the Budget Ad Hoc Committee to research additional discretionary revenue-generating options and return to the Board with a recommendation.

Item #19, File 25-0137 Agenda and meeting participation instructions are available here: eldorado.legistar.com/Calendar.aspx

Written correspondence should be directed to the County of El Dorado Board of Supervisors, 330 Fair Lane, Placerville, CA 95667 or via email: edc.cob@edcgov.us

Please submit your comment via email before 4:00 p.m. on the day prior to the Board meeting so that your comment can be placed into the public record and forwarded to the Board of Supervisors prior to the meeting.
