Should the county’s rural character be included in the Vision Statement of the Strategic Plan?
The Pre-2015 Vision Statement: El Dorado County will remain the leader in supporting our safe, healthy, and vibrant communities, wisely managing our natural resources, and preserving our local heritage.
Current Vision Statement: Safe, healthy and vibrant communities, respecting our natural resources, and historical heritage.
Draft Vision Statement at end of 8/28/23 Strategic Plan Workshop: Exceptional quality of life with a strong sense of community, rural character, managed growth, and opportunity for all.
Draft Vision Statement from Working Group: Exceptional quality of life with a strong sense of community and opportunity for all.
During the 8/28/23 Strategic Plan Workshop, I advocated to include our rural character in the Vision Statement because the Introduction of our General Plan states: “The rural character of the County is its most important asset.” When we left the meeting, the draft Vision Statement did include the county’s rural character. However, the Working Group met afterward and changed it as shown above. In September the County sent out a survey asking residents for input on the Strategic Plan and the first question is below with the results in a word cloud. I believe the County’s Vision Statement should reflect the priorities of the residents.
