September is National Suicide Prevention Month – a time to emphasize that suicide prevention is everyone’s business. Suicide is a significant public health problem. According to the California Dept. of Public Health, an average of 33 El Dorado County residents died by suicide every year between 2015 and 2019. El Dorado County currently has a higher rate of death by suicide than both the State of California and the United States.
In July 2020, the El Dorado County Health and Human Services Agency, Behavioral Health Division, launched an El Dorado County Suicide Strategic Planning Group with the overarching goal of preventing suicide deaths. The plan developed through this group was approved by the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors on July 19, 2022. You can review the plan here.
