 Mt. Murphy Bridge Update

Mt Murphy Bridge closure

Mt. Murphy Bridge: DOT Update (10/06/2021)

At this time the Mt. Murphy bridge is still closed to the public, which includes pedestrians, bicycles, and motorized vehicles.

Repairs: Crews are finishing maintenance to the bridge railing and structural members today. A load test is scheduled for Friday, October 8, 2021, to determine if the bridge can be safely reopened. Our goal would be to open the bridge on a conditional basis by Friday afternoon. However, the load test will be the determining factor.

Evacuation Plan: The El Dorado County Office of Emergency Services partnered with CodeRED emergency notification service to alert residents and businesses by telephone, cell phone, text message, email, and social media when there is a threat to the health or safety of residents. Please sign up for CodeRed here, https://ready.edso.org/, or call 530-621-5895. You can also obtain downloadable copies of the flyers attached to this post at the above-referenced web address.

Community Meeting: The Department of Transportation and Supervisor Lori Parlin will hold a virtual Town Hall Meeting to address public concerns related to the Mt. Murphy Bridge.

Thank you for your understanding as we work to safely resolve the damages to the bridge as a result of an accident on 9/25/2021.

###

DOT has been posting daily updates on their Road Work Alerts webpage so that all of the information is in one place to avoid misinformation and I have been directing residents there for the most current updates: https://www.edcgov.us/government/dot/pages/roadworkalerts.aspx

DOT has been working diligently on this issue and cannot open the bridge until a structural engineer certifies that it is structurally sound.

I cannot imagine the burden that the bridge closure is placing on everyone. We are doing everything possible to get the bridge safely reopened as quickly as possible.
