2020 Defensible Space Assistance Program

For Seniors, Veterans, or Those with Low Income

The El Dorado County Fire Safe Council (EDCFSC) has been awarded funding to help create defensible space around the primary homes of seniors, veterans, or those with low income on the western slope of El Dorado County. Applicants must be financially and physically unable to develop defensible space around their home. Creating defensible space around their homes will improve the chance of the residence surviving a fire.

Eligibility requirements:
* Veteran (or Veteran’s Widow/Widower): a copy of DD214, El Dorado County Veteran Identification Card or Department of Identification Card must be shown during the on-site defensible space evaluation.
*Senior: proof of age over 60 must be shown during the on-site defensible space evaluation
*Low Income: Maximum Annual Household Income Limits
1 person = $31,950
2 persons = $36,540
persons = $41,100
4 persons = $45,660

Dollar General Next Steps

Our office has received several inquiries regarding next steps on the Cool Dollar General project. Staff has informed us that the applicant has decided to move forward with the Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the project. The California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) process, including notification and public participation, is explained in the chart below. Please note that the CEQA process for the Dollar General project will continue at the Significant Effects Possible step.

We will share notifications through this newsletter and Facebook when we receive them from staff.

Auburn Lake Trails-15 Years Firewise

Congratulations to Auburn Lakes Trails Firewise Community. Auburn Lake Trails (ALT) has recently been recognized by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) as a Firewise Community for 15 consecutive years. ALT was the third Community to attain Firewise Community status in the State of California. El Dorado County has several Firewise communities.
