The Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) is launching the first phase of the California Pesticide Electronic Submission Tracking (CalPEST) tomorrow, Sept. 24, by 9 a.m. PDT.
CalPEST is a modernized, online system that streamlines the department’s pesticide registration process. The system will reduce the time associated with processing registration actions, improve transparency in DPR’s evaluation and registration process, and facilitate approval of safer alternatives needed to transition California to more sustainable pest management. The second phase, which includes a revamped search functionality and additional submission functionality, will launch in 2025.
What registrants and agents can do in CalPEST
- Renew licenses
- Pay renewal and application fees electronically
- Submit new product and amendment submissions
- Submit stand-alone data (e.g., adverse effects, reevaluation, etc.)
- Manage company changes
- Update and track the progress of your submissions
How to prepare for CalPEST
Prepare authorization letters for Company Association Requests (CARs)
- Company Roles in CalPEST:
-
Company Submitter - can generate a copy of the company license, complete the checkout process for new submissions, and track/update the submissions for which they are the contact
-
Company Administrator - can perform the actions of Company Submitter as well as manage the users associated with the company, voluntarily cancel product registrations, update the company address, and change the submission contact for any active submissions
- Authorization Letters must be submitted if the company does not yet have an established CalPEST Company Administrator. The Authorization Letter:
- Must be on official company letterhead, signed by an official of the registrant (a company official designated as having authority over company registration activities, such as a Manager/Director/Head of Regulatory Affairs or State Registration, or CEO), and uploaded as a PDF
- Must specify the name of the individual(s) authorized to do work on behalf of the company
- Must specify the user role the user if the role is for a Company Administrator; if no role is specified, the role will default to a Company Submitter
Automatic CalPEST e-mail information
Please be advised that, as outlined in California Notice 2024-13, DPR is entering all pending hard copy submissions received prior to August 1 into CalPEST. These submissions are being processed in the order they were received.
While registrants have started receiving CalPEST emails regarding their submissions, no action can be taken until the system goes live on September 24. As applications are entered into CalPEST, an automated invoice email will be generated. This invoice serves as proof of submission and a record of the amount due.
If full payment was included with the original hard copy submission, DPR will process the associated payments, and no additional funds will be required. The invoice is intended for your records only.
