Category Changes for QAL/QAC Holders

Beginning January 1, 2024, the Qualified Applicator License/Certificate (QAL/QAC) subcategories listed will be eliminated and ineligible for renewal.  

• Subcategory L – Wood Preservation
• Subcategory M – Anti-Fouling Tributyltin
• Subcategory N – Sewer Line Root Control
• Subcategory O – Field Fumigation
• Subcategory P – Microbial Pest Control

There are two new certification categories for Soil Fumigation (Category L) and Non-Soil Fumigation (Category M). If you use pesticide(s) labeled as a fumigant, review the Qualified Applicator License/Certificate Fumigation Categories document. The applications and examinations to obtain these new categories are available now!

Timeline of Category Changes

The examinations for the new Soil Fumigation (Category L) and Non-Soil Fumigation (Category M) categories are available at DPR’s computer-based testing centers now! The study manuals for the new fumigation categories will be available July 2023. Visit DPR’s Certification and Training webpage for information.

If impacted by the new regulatory requirements, DPR encourages you to obtain compliance between July – December 31, 2023. Obtaining compliance prior to January 1, 2024 will allow you to continue conducting your current pest control activities uninterrupted in 2024.

On January 1, 2024, the Certification and Training regulatory requirements are effective and the existing subcategories that are listed above are eliminated and ineligible for renewal.
