Message from Director Ana Lasso
In January, the Los Angeles community experienced one of the worst disasters in its history as wildfires burned through the communities of Altadena and Pacific Palisades. I am heartbroken to see the scale of the damage. As a lifelong and proud Angeleno, the January fires have had a profound impact on me. Governor Newsom has made recovery from this disaster a top priority and has activated all possible mechanisms of state government to assist. At DGS, we are doing our part in the recovery effort by reevaluating building standards and thinking about how we can rebuild better. The Building Standards Commission, Office of Public School Construction, and Division of the State Architect are all working to streamline relief, recovery, and rebuilding for survivors of the fires.

Sustainability Spotlight: Decarbonization Roadmaps
DGS’ Office of Sustainability is working with Glumac Engineering to help develop Decarbonization Planning Roadmaps for all state agencies to include in their Sustainability Roadmaps by the end of this year. This is in compliance with Senate Bill 1203 (Becker 2022), which requires DGS to work with state agencies to develop plans to achieve zero emissions from state operations by 2035. State agencies have already reduced emissions since 2010 by 65%. This achievement will help DGS plan the phasing, efforts and investments needed to bring state facility emissions to zero within 10 years.
